SHI Relay 3rd

Went out in 5th. Spongey 40 ahead, GG and Baba about 20. GG had shorter gaffle at 1 and never saw him or Spongey as they just ran away from me. Overtook Baba at different Gaffle at 2 and here Murray caught me after starting about 15sec behind. We were together until 9. Switching then I took a different route (Had a different gaffle) and nailed my controls in the tricky bit and never saw him again. Turned out I had a slightly shorter gaffle. I was pretty clean through to the finish trying to push on simple bits but mostly trying to keep it clean. Murray lost a fair bit of time so in the end it wasn't that close but I was still running scared.

Happy with today. Nav was much stronger. 2:40 down on GG but over 45min I am happy with that.

Another really enjoyable SHI. Good area good courses and good competition.

Scotland just sneaked it this year unfortunately.

SHI Individual 4th.

Well I went in trying to take it sensibly. Had a nice plan to 1 but missed it and then couldn't relocate. Lost 3min. I came out the control and saw Doug facing the other way. So turned round and left control the other way so he wouldn't see me. I then scraped my way through the next 6 losing 20seconds on many of them. Doug got me at 7. I would take the path routes and often be in front but would always miss little bits and he just kept outnavigating me. Then caught Baba and Ben Mitchell and we had some long legs and I put the hammer down and managed to put just over a minute into them so was by myself. Then blew it at the second to last control missing a path and Doug finished about 5 seconds in front of me. I physically felt very good and was running a fairly similar pace to GG and Kris in the last 30-40min.

Just never got my head round how to orienteer fast.

FWTN. Blackford

Forgot how much I enjoy night-o. Gotta get training to be one of those guys on the podium behind GG at BNC as I have been last two years. You never know he might get distracted by some campfire songs this year.

Anyway was a really good course and nice area. My feet were incredibly tight from these shoes which hurt a lot on the hill so they are not being worn again (anybody want some Asics grippy fell type shoes pretty cheap). Was very scrappy even going quite slowly, got better as it went on and even found a fiver. £3 profit from training. Professional athlete.

Feeling quite good which was nice after dying yesterday. Looking forward to another weekend of racing. A little less climb this time though.

Quite tired to begin with then took a new route to the Pentlands and then had a fun 10min in some huge tussocks going to Harbour hill. Struggling most the way home.

Tempo along WoL and Canal with small headtorch.
Then a few long strides on the meadows. Got a case of the Elkington at the end of the tempo.
