MOC- Forest Sprint

Cool race and was okay in the forest sprint bit but losing a few seconds then on long leg to 5 got caught in Brambles which which wasn't fun. Caught Gernot at 5 though and then overtook him about 4 times as he kept outnavigating me into the controls.
Last section was pretty easy and tried to push hard and it hurt a lot.

Hamstring was feeling fairly good today. Knee quite sore though. Too many steps this week.

MOC sprint Paestum.

Cool archeological site where everything was uncrossable. I took wayy too long working out what was on the map and not and trying not to cross unmapped walls too.
It was good fun though and even after a thorough warm down check I think I did not cross anything.

About 4 min down though.

Shadowing Kris with the camera. Some very fast running required but also got some easier times. Trying not to do my classic sideways head when tired so I didn't ruin the footage.

Night sprint agropoli. Hamstring wasn't great but didn't get worse so carried on just a bit cautiously at time. It was easy and I made some lazy rc mistakes which was annoying.

MOC Chasing sprint semi

Starting 8sec behind Martin Hubmann and 6 behind Yannick then had a 10sec gap behind and a load more athletes then.

Set off very hard just glimpsing those two to keep in touch then to 4 they split and I followed Martin and ran very hard downhill to catch him. On the back of him but hadn't looked at my map much and a 10sec mistake was made and came back through the control and now a big group was close to us.
Clean through 5 then went via 7 to 6 and Martin punched it ran off and I then stopped and realised we hadn't been to 6 so went to 6 then back to 7. 8 was technical and I wasn't really in orienteering mode and was very sloppy and joined at the control by everyone.
Then went left behind Tim up to 9 and got overtaken by a couple of people as didn't have the pace but had time to read the map and thought right was quicker to 10. Punched 9 in 4th then went my way and got to 10 about 1 sec ahead but I got to carry on through the control and built up a big lead and finished fairly comfortably in 1st as Martin mp'd

Can't quite believe I made the final again and Tim managed to get second which was cool.

MOC Chasing start A-final -6th place

Starting in 2nd 5sec behind Daniel Hubmann and just sprinted out the start and went all out to catch him and decided to trust him yet we had a slowish route to 1 and lost a small amount of time then another small miss to 2 and the pack was on us then again wrong route to 3 and now in about 4th. Then just ran hard holding and got to 5 and the others were shouting something as control wasn't there so turned and smashed in FH got confused so went and checked 5 wasn't there then carried on. Now the front four were miles off so was behind FH but another bad route and missed an alley he missed more I got into the control with Loic and then on the long run in from two controls out I kicked and went past feeling good.
I didn't even die and he came flying past at an unreal speed I couldn't compete with.

Today the orienteering was extremely shabby (mostly as I wasn't looking at the map) yet in my tactics I didn't really intend to navigate and just trust more experienced orienteers. With one exception that won me my heat.

Sprint course back at Peschici. Nice to do some navigating around the alleys instead of just following. Quite tired and it was very slippy so took it easy.

Training in Forest Umbria.

Tipping it down and absolutely loving it. Started off on a control pick then did a few long legs before finishing with more control pick. Really awesome Karst area. Meant to do about 70 but was having a lot of fun.

MOC Qualifier.

Wanted to run hard so I could make it into the top 30 to do the events for the rest of the week.

Went out hard and Emil was following the whole way which I didn't realise but oh well. Nailed one and then got into the flow of it nicely. Always felt a little on the edge but didn't make any major mistakes (just a couple of small RC errors) and was running quite nicely.
Ended up finishing 8th in a pretty stacked race so really happy with this.

Semi Final.

I knew Peter and Tranchand were main competitors so was hoping to just keep in touch and see what happens. After a nervy first couple settled into 3rd with behind FT and PH then FT turned back as his punch failed and on long leg to 5 PH went wrong way I went the right way and the rest of the field followed him. By the end of the leg he has absolutely smashed it and was 5m behind but we were clear and then a control later knew we had a little bit of time.
I happily led and then realised PH wasn't with me so guessed it was gaffling and just kept moving well and was clean and apart from losing about 8 seconds crawling under a crane was clean and came into the finish with a nice lead.
Got a bit lucky with a fairly easy heat and FT having dibber failure.

Was happy enough to get through to the semi let alone the final.

Nice to be joined by Kris and Tim in the final. Good English speaking ratio.

Knockout final.

In the technical alleyways this time. I was expecting a fast race and to hang on. At the first junction everyone went right and I went left then made a small hesitation and Martin Hubmann came flying past and then I followed him for the next 14 controls. He was very smooth and rarely stopped and it was quite impressive following him and there was no way I was overtaking or navigating enough to take different routes.

After 4 controls we came out to a road run and saw the other pack ~7sec ahead and Martin chased and I hung on enough to stay in sight so when we went back into technical bit I got back on him. Then leaving technical bit we were back with other pack and I was in 4th with Kris and Tim behind. Then Tim flew past quickly followed by Kris and from here on I just went slowly backwards not having the pace to contend. Made a little 5sec mistake at the 18th running up wrong alley.

Yet I did successfully punch the 19th control which the first 4 didn't and Kris ran the wrong loop. Unfortunately it was the organisers fault the control wasn't turned on so they got reinstated.

Been a very confidence boosting day. Time to get faster.
