Dumyat Hill race. 2nd

Well there goes summer. Nice wet and cold day. Obviously not feeling amazing but held on pretty well. Scotia miles off up the hill but was in 4th about 10s behind Hamish and some other guy.

Caught them quickly on descent but then just stuck behind as passing all the people coming up. Got past and pushed on. So much fun pushing hard through the forest on the steep banks and got close to Scott but couldn't close the gap at all when it got flat/uphill again.

Picked up a nice few segments on the way down.

Stuc a' chroin

I asked Liam on Wednesday if he wanted to do a hill run today and said he was doing this so I decided I could come and either spectate or cruise round after the 5k. I set off nice and slow in a big group with all the orienteers. Obviously those plans went to pot and my competitive instinct kicked in but was still glad of the steady start.

Then a very wet slippy descent. On my arse a few times but so was everyone. Then begain the long steep heather climb. 440m in 1.2k. Just grinding away behind Ali. Then finally got to the top in about 8th and Hamish set what felt like a hard pace along the ridge and three of us split off and I just yoyoed off the back for the whole ridge to Stuc and back to the split. During this we caught two fast starters.

I made my move on this descent as thought I needed a gap on Hamish before the climb. Ended up catching 4th and 3rd and ground up the climb. Then started charging as saw Sam and clocked him about 80sec ahead but I was feeling good.

Hit the forest road and really tried to go and finally got him. Went past as hard as I could whilst looking comfortable to try and make him give up the chase. I got a big gap and so was pretty safe coming in. A solid 11min behind the winner though. Not surprising when Finlay turns up though.

Ended up running a 3:00 min/k followed by a 2:53 after 2 hours racing. Couldn't do it after 5min yesterday. It was slightly downhill. I

Ended up 2nd and a nice bottle of whisky and £30 PB vouchers. Hill running is a far more lucrative sport for me.

Scottish 5k SIlverknowes.

Good conditions and feeling okay and ready to race. Set off trying to not go crazy as all the little kids flew off. Tailwind for first k in 2:56. Just sat behind Carcas and Jack in a group. As we got round the top loop we merged into a big group in the wind and I settled in the middle. It felt comfortable but decided I wasn't pushing on till at least 3k. Then at 3k Jack went and so I moved out and tried to push on a bit (slow down less than others). Obviously Murray came past again after starting slower. I really struggled from 3.5-4.5 but then found something in the last 500 and managed to kick on past Carcas and had a full on sprint finish left.

Great fun racing on a lovely evening. Lacking in the back third but happy enough with the time.
