Orienteering race 53:17 [4] 6.85 km (7:46 / km) +126m 7:07 / km
shoes: Innovates

Long Distance Champs. Walked to the start and the rain had stopped and thought it might be a sunny run, no such luck as the rain came back and kept going the whole course. Started 2 minutes after Alan Whitfield who had been telling me about his marathon training for the Athens Marathon so I thought he might be hard to catch. First couple of controls were good and I picked off the attackpoints and held my bearing then a long leg to #3 went around the rock and up to the powerline track where I could see Alan a couple of hundred meters in front, I manged to catch him at the control as he slowed after going into the bush. Control picking through the next 7 controls was fine, nearly overshot on #9 but thought no more rocks in front of me and turned back to see I was level with the control 20m away. Simmo came by at #10 and it looked like he was going for the same control so we raced down the hill and then off to #12 where it turned out we had different controls, I lost a bit of focus and did not read where I was on the creeks and Simmo had turned off as he had a different control to me. Lost 2-3 minutes going too far upstream and not reading the description carefully and did not see that the control was top of bank not foot which made it easy to see when I came back into the circle.

Held out Tony Whittaker by a few seconds for the double on the weekend, maybe retirement is good for fitness and focus?

Running 14:00 [3] 2.0 km (7:00 / km)
shoes: Asics - new May 2013

Jogged over to Jolimont to collect the car left behind after a fun Bring Out your Dead wine club evening. Some great wines some nearly 30 years old and still drinking well, some not so lucky ..

Orienteering race 36:56 [4] 4.09 km (9:02 / km) +95m 8:06 / km

State Middle Distance Champs - ran well and only had a few very minor time loses. Had the good fortune to be 2 minutes behind Anthea and when she made two one minute errors we were together for 75% of the course and it helps to make sure there are no big errors. managed to get ahead of Anthea a couple times but bad knee or not she was moving well through the bush and even withstood a shirt front charge from Juffy.

Nice course plenty of direction change and small route choices.

Added a wine glass to the collection, some of the competition was not there due to Hockey, Injury, Travel and other factors so ended up with a fairly comfortable lead over 2nd place.

Back on the bike. Fair weather riders not to be seen, (NB One FROG spotted on the path near Cottesloe going who knows where). I managed to ride without showers but as ever windy, well it is Perth.
