Orienteering race (Sprint) 18:18 [4] 2.73 km (6:42 / km) +43m 6:12 / km
shoes: Asics - new May 2013

Aus Sprint Champs M60, Pretty steady run, no standout legs but no stuff ups so steady steady and ended up 4th which was pretty good result. Paul Hoopman missed the first control otherwise I would have been one place lower down.

Nice use of a small tight map, similar to John XXIII

Orienteering 17:24 [4] 2.65 km (6:35 / km) +13m 6:25 / km
shoes: Asics - new May 2013

Sprint training run ahead of Saturdays Champs in Canberra, on the John XXIII EOD course which was 2.0km straight line. Time a bit off from the fastest on the day but not too bad.

Running 30:19 [3] 5.07 km (5:59 / km) +44m 5:44 / km
shoes: Asics - new May 2013

Jogged around the 2nd half of the EOD course to see if I could find Nicole, but she was already finished and waiting at the car. So ran home via the Shenton Park Bush Land and the back of Shenton College and wondered how we could join up the two sprint maps for a event?

Walking 1:06:39 [3] 7.44 km (8:58 / km) +60m 8:37 / km

A lap of Herdsman Lake while Nicole was at the gym. Tried to go a a good pace, slowed a couple of times where the track was flooded and swampy. Managed to avoid the showers.

I have no idea where the 60m of climb comes from as it is as flat as

Long Distance Champs. Walked to the start and the rain had stopped and thought it might be a sunny run, no such luck as the rain came back and kept going the whole course. Started 2 minutes after Alan Whitfield who had been telling me about his marathon training for the Athens Marathon so I thought he might be hard to catch. First couple of controls were good and I picked off the attackpoints and held my bearing then a long leg to #3 went around the rock and up to the powerline track where I could see Alan a couple of hundred meters in front, I manged to catch him at the control as he slowed after going into the bush. Control picking through the next 7 controls was fine, nearly overshot on #9 but thought no more rocks in front of me and turned back to see I was level with the control 20m away. Simmo came by at #10 and it looked like he was going for the same control so we raced down the hill and then off to #12 where it turned out we had different controls, I lost a bit of focus and did not read where I was on the creeks and Simmo had turned off as he had a different control to me. Lost 2-3 minutes going too far upstream and not reading the description carefully and did not see that the control was top of bank not foot which made it easy to see when I came back into the circle.

Held out Tony Whittaker by a few seconds for the double on the weekend, maybe retirement is good for fitness and focus?
