Cycle Touring 1:18:32 [3] 17.77 km (13.6 kph) +253m
shoes: Orbit Touring Bike

The last leg of the trip from Dover Port to Folkestone.

Bikes will be safely back in my Sister's garage until their next outing - who knows when or where. We did just over 1,800km on our bikes for the trip and enjoyed cruising through France from the Atlantic to the Med, exploring a bit of the Alps and the Jura plus a some rides in Germany on the Moselle and in Saarland.

Hiking 1:10:00 [2] 5.0 km (14:00 / km)

Into Cochem on the bus after lunch.

Walked up to the castle and back, quite steep but a good view from the terrace. Decided that the German guided tour was not the thing we needed, no self guided option available.

Got the bus back to Ernst after fighting off the hordes of people that wanted to get the bus. At least 50% more than capacity, and lots of people left behind for the next in 1 hour! The Germans do not queue so we had to push and shove like the rest to get on, one fellow was pushing a lady in the throat to try and make space, I think that in other places there could have more of an incident.

Stopped at the wine festival in Ernst for a(nother very fine bottle of Moselle Riesling and then strolled back along the river the 4km to Ellenz

Running hills 42:31 [4] 6.15 km (6:55 / km) +215m 5:53 / km
shoes: Black Asics GT 2000

I had been thinking I should go for a run up the side of the valley all week and my coach told me to get out this morning.

Up through the vineyards from Ellenz and into the woods, made it to the top with one short stop to catch my breath. 200m up in 2.6km was pretty solid and managed to keep going at a sort of a jog / run. Had a stretch at the top and then back down the road trying not got go too hard and trash my quads.

A very nice run.

Cycle Touring 2:28:08 [3] 45.72 km (18.5 kph) +216m
shoes: Orbit Touring Bike

Up river to Bullay for a very nice Winestub lunch, ham and egg for me and roast pork for Fizzyred. Washed down with a little Riesling.

Light breeze headwind on the way out and nice tail wind on the way back A very nice section of the river with the path away from the road for the most part. Took the track by the railway for the first part on the way back which had a short sharp hill to get to it which was a bit f a shock to the system after lunch!

Brisk walk on a trail to look at the views of the Moselle, no GPS as I forgot to put it in the car

From Ellenz to Koblenz - the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle which we needed to visit as we have been to the source. I must say the confluence is a little more impressive than the dribble that is the source!

Swapped sided of the river a couple of times, but each side is much the same with the bike path along the side of the road or better in some parts as it a few meters away from the road. The valley bottom is quite narrow and fitting in a railway, road and bike path does not leave much room.

Koblenz seems like a nice city but we just went to the confluence and then walked back through the city to the train station and took the train back to Cochem and then rode the last 10km back to the start.

Definitely would put riding the full length of the Moselle on the list of nice long distance rides, it is around 550km
