Local Score O event in Dover run by Saxon Orienteers
Small area on the edge of Dover 1:4,000 scale on a steep chalk hillside partly wooded with lots of tracks. A twist in the system that gave 10 points per control (20 Controls) but a bonus 10 points for each time you ran controls in number sequence.
I spotted a couple of number sequences that I could easily build into the route without massive back tracking and did 5 for an additional 50 points. Finished the course first out of about 12 runners in 35 minutes but one guy did all the controls in order for maximum points in just under the allotted 60 minutes and a couple of other did more sequential controls than me but did not get all the controls. I should have tried for more sequence controls but did not realise that I would get around the controls quite as quickly as I did.
Managed to introduce my sister to Orienteering and she seemed to enjoy it and might try it again sometime.
Retired for a stroll along the sea front at Deal and a beer in the garden, the way an Orienteering Sunday should be.
