Day 3 of cycle Samoa.

Tried to get going earlyish not that you can beat the heat or humidity, but it felt better to get going at 8am

A couple of long gentler hills than two days ago but with numerous other short rolling hills 325m of climb in the bag.

Stopped at a bakery had a pineapple jam pasty and a coffee, pastry was good and the sugar hit was useful, but the cafine hit the spot.

New resort tonight and Sunday is very much a day of rest in Samoa.

Pretty stuffed from the three Hs Hills, Heat and Humidity.

No cycling today but a kayak trip.

Down a fresh / brackish creek to the ocean at the back of the reef. Paddle out to where there a colony of Hawkbill Turtles live.

Quite a few turtles shooting through water as we paddled around.

Pulled up on beach while one of the guides went off in search of coconuts, which were not hard to find, took 5 minutes to weave a basket from a palm frond, hulled the nuts and we all had fresh coconut milk.

Back up the creek, through the mangroves to a lunch by the fresh water spring that feeds the creek.

Upolu Day 2

From La Vesa resort to the giant clam sanctuary.

Extremely steep section after 11km of flat along the coast, 200m in 2km but sections up to 14 or 15%. No way I could ride it on the mtb with panniers. Might have made it on a road bike but the heat and humidity was the killer.

Stopped at the giant clam sanctuary for a swim and snorkel

Cycle Touring (Samoa Upolu ) 22:09 [3] 4.1 km (11.1 kph) +6m

From the clams to the Return to Paradise resort, named after a 1953 movie starring Gary Cooper, it is showing tonight at the resort, maybe give that a miss!
