Orienteering race 46:08 [3]

WIOL #3 at North SeaTac Park. It was a beautiful day, sunny, but very cold. It was a fast course. Was slow in the beginning, as usual, as I got used to the map. I saw control #2 from a distance but thought it was not mine for a bit but then decided it had to be because the features were right so that lost me some time. Then going to #3 I saw a trail that was apparently not on the map, but I thought it was the one on the map so that threw me off. Knowing these were WIOL maps I didn't lose too much time in realizing it was an unmapped feature and ran down another trial to attack from a different direction and had no trouble finding the point. Going to #4 I saw the bike path and was surprised to see no bike path on the map. Now that is an obvious feature! So I thought, hmm... looks like the bike path is newly paved, maybe too new for the map! So I decided the hill next to me must be the hill with the control. Only there was a path up to the hill that was not on the map. Must be another unmapped trail. So I went up it to the top of the hill and there was my control!

Did the rest of them quite quickly for me. Kean was behind me or just passed me for controls up to #12 so that kept me going quickly. But I got a little confused at #12. I thought the unmapped trees were the mapped trees so I lost some time there. Getting to #13 took me up a steep hill so I walked and lost some time there. Then did great to #14 and 15 and okay the rest of the way.

I am on the mapping committee and need to make a note that North SeaTac Park needs some minor updating.

Run 20:00 [3]

Ran to the post office to deliver a letter to the county against the rezoning of my neighbor's property. He is planning on putting in a development. Now there will be two more: one directly to the east of us and one directly to the west of us.

Walk 40:00 [2]

Walked back from the post office.

Run 37:00 [3]

For some reason I was feeling rather energetic after work today and ran for 37 minutes along the Burke-Gilman trail at Bothell Landing before I even noticed I had run for that long. That is a very rare occurrence. Usually, I am looking at my watch frequently, hoping my 20 minutes are almost over. Maybe it was the caffeinated diet coke I had late in the day. I woke up late this morning and didn't have time to pack my regular caffeine-free version so I bought the caffeinated one from the machine. Or, maybe I was energetic because I am finally caught up at work and was able to leave today at 4:00 instead of 8:00. That was really nice.

Walk 23:00 [2]

Walked the last 23 minutes along the Burke-Gilman to finish out the hour.

Run 25:00 [3]

It was dark so I ran around the neighborhoods near Thoreau Elementary School. I felt pretty energetic considering I have been getting very little sleep lately and working extremely long hours. Last week of crazy work. Then one week of semi-crazy work and then I am on break!

Walk 35:00 [2]

Finished out the hour walking near Thoreau. Some Christmas lights out so it is nice to walk in the evenings now, if I can find a fairly safe place.

Walk 1:05:00 [2]

Walked to the cemetery and back. Ran a little, but not much. Talking to my sister Linda and my mom while walking.

yard work 3:30:00 [2]

Lots of yard work today. The laurel is all cleaned up and lots of leaves are cleaned up as well. The yard is looking pretty good, but still much to do.
