Running race (Heptonstall Fell Race ) 2:02:45 [3] 14.7 mi (8:21 / mi) +1000m 6:54 / mi

Heptonstall Fell Race, my first outing on this one. Well known as a decent 3 Peaks ‘warm up’.

Training has been okay without being great, and that probably reflected. Set off hard, recognising and aspiring to stay with Ed Hyland (Stadium) but he soon eased away up the first climb, which was to become a recurring theme of the day.

Recognised Jon Pownall and Ethan Hassell come past me on the way up to the first summit. I put a ‘dig’ in (if you could call it that) on the descent to get back with them, but then slid back on the next ascent - gained on the next descent, and again was in touch at Hardcastle Crags, but was starting to feel it. Lost touch on the steep pull away from Hardcastle and that gap got a bit bigger, allowing a couple more folk to come past me as I struggled to hold on. Plugged away okay up the ‘Stairway to Heaven’ overtaking one but losing one as well. I think I ended up around 17th, +12minutes on the winter, +1-2 minutes on Jon and Ethan.

I didn’t have my climbing legs today (if indeed I own a pair, I must look for them), but wasn’t too far back from a decent result, so it perhaps wasn’t as bad as it felt. It was a lovely day around a superb part of Yorkshire and the race was brilliantly organised. Will find some more hills and long runs in the coming weekends, although back to back weekends in London and Hertfordshire in April will add to that particular challenge!

Running 1:10:00 [3] 9.2 mi (7:37 / mi)

A steady and pleasant loop from East Keswick, on a sunny Saturday morning.

Friday Mar 22 #

Running 28:00 [3] 3.7 mi (7:34 / mi)

A few token early miles

Thursday Mar 21 #

Used some unexpected annual leave to enter days 4-6 of the Scottish. I should potentially do some orienteering beforehand.

Running 1:16:00 [3] 10.1 mi (7:31 / mi)

Easy with the club. A touch too easy

Running 1:11:00 [3] 10.0 mi (7:06 / mi)

A good solid outing from work around the canal and Castleford.

A man pretended to rugby tackle me in Castleford (such is the nature of the town). Regrettably, I shit myself a bit and nearly fell over, which caused untold joy and hilarity amongst his friends.

Running 45:00 [3] 6.4 mi (7:02 / mi)

Canal from work
