Running 16:23 [5] 3.09 mi (5:18 / mi)
Yorkshire Road Relays, Leg 4 for our A team. Brownlee Centre in Leeds. - a good venue for it.
Predictably we were in the mix after a strong first 3, so I set off in 3rd, moments behind 2nd. Sheffield and Wakefield (both sub 15 minute runners) came storming by pretty quickly, so at least that put thoughts of a podium finish to bed.
I stuck to another chap (who had started just ahead of me) grimly for the remainder. He ended up having too much for me on the sprint finish (I used to be good at these), after I perhaps daftly tried to kick with about 400m to go. Mo Farah I wasn’t, and he sat on my shoulder and breezes past with 100m to go. Ah well.
Plus side - this was much faster than I’ve run before, off not loads of speed work of late. I think it counts as a 5K PB, near enough. It’s a very fast course, but still. I did enjoy it, and a nice diversion from the longer slow stuff.
