Hiking 30:00 [1]

Went for a little walk down at Bayfront to see if I could find the two lost flags from last night. I thought that if they had blown away they may have been caught in some bushes and impossible to see at night but findable in the day time.

All I found was the string of number 5. It must have snapped in the wind and blown out into the bay. There is no ice in the water there at all so I checked along the shore to see if it had washed up but there was no sign.

A gorgeous, gorgeous day to be out.

Orienteering 30:00 [1]

Placing flags for the X-league at Bayfront Park on an amazing 14 degree day! It was very windy down by the water and cooling off as the evening went on but much much warmer than our last winter x-league at Bayfront! Thanks to Emil for the great course.

Mapping at Brock. I think there is going to be considerably less snow at the Eliminator this year!

Hiking 1:00:00 [1]

It was such a lovely day I just had to be outside. I dropped Kate off at the train and then did a hike from Lion's Club pool.

Notable books completed recently include
The Sun also Rises (Hemingway) - Understated but good. Thanks for the recommendation dad!

Armada (Cline) - Recommended to me by Owen G. while we were hanging out in Chapters in Waterloo between O-cup races back in November. Basic plot is that video games have actually been used to train humans how to fight an invading alien armada. I liked Ready Player One better but I feel like I have gained a bit of insight into the psyche of some of the ARXers.

The Crucible (Miller) - Famous classic play about puritan community caught up in a witch hunt/allegory for McCarthyism. Always powerful and thought provoking.

The Good Earth (Buck) - A poor farmer in China at the beginning of the 1900s invests wisely and becomes a wealthy man. Very well written but didn't like the characters that much and found it hard to sympathize. The 1937 movie was nominated for an Oscar and seems to be a classic case of golden Hollywood era yellow-face.

Orienteering 1:00:00 [2]

Took Kate orienteering behind the Walmart (Rockcliff Trails) using some leftover maps from Raid the Hammer. There was no snow in the woods at all but the trails were sheer ice. Kate didn't have spikes on and although she was slip-sliding along impressively stayed on her feet.

Had lunch at the Brown Dog and then a wonderful surprise birthday party for me at the Gadjanski's :)

Hiking 1:30:00 [1]

Kate was visiting and we went down to Niagara Falls and then went for a lovely walk in the DV from the end of Lion's Club Road.
