Orienteering 49:00 [3]

Quarienteering #13 - Capilano University
Nice to get out and de-stress after I took a look at the schedule of assignments for the next 3 weeks. UBC is not taking the same keep it simple tactic as the BC school system in regards to online classes.
The orienteering went OK. I made a fairly significant error trying to get through an impassable wall even though I have known for years that the spot was not passable. Other than that everything was fine. The course was very twisty and the app punched lots of controls several times and one never beeped but it is mostly in my pocket just for fun at this point. It was great night to be out orienteering and the campus was lovely and quiet.
Kept up the tradition of running into people while orienteering. Pretty much every single time except at SFU.

Orienteering 50:00 [3]

Quarienteering #12? (I'm losing track) - Queen Elizabeth Park.
I decided to treat myself for finishing off two big assignments this weekend by heading over to Queen Elizabeth Park to do the World Orienteering Course that I didn't get around to in the week that it was released. The problem was that a rather rainy Saturday and Sunday morning meant that everyone was out taking advantage of a nice afternoon in one of Vancouver's premium parks. Everywhere I went, I kept disturbing people having picnics, walking slowly in contemplation, having awkward social distance dates, and playing throwing games. I disturb these types of people every time I orienteer but I felt particularly nuisancesome today. People were being very well-behaved at keeping their 2 m distance and then I would burst out of the bushes right behind them. Eventually, I was only really running on the open grassy stretches where there weren't any people around and decided to take it easy and smell the roses the rest of the time. I mean literally smell the roses (I found one that smelled like fruit loops). The rose garden was the nicest that I have ever seen it. I spent several minutes just wandering around it before continuing. I also ran into one of my students from my practicum school who was walking with her parents and had a little chat with them.

Afterward, I took a little jog around Hillcrest and Riley park just across the road. They aren't the best terrain ever but I think that they have enough features to consider mapping, especially since they can be tied in to the Queen Elizabeth Park Map and a nearby school.
