Orienteering 1:04:46 [3] *** 4.4 km (14:43 / km) +280m 11:10 / km
spiked:16/20c shoes: Asics 2017

Casual training at Maidstone Park and surrounds, including a significant area to the NE that I'm pretty sure I've never been before, orienteering or otherwise. Missed going to 4 and possibly 3 due to indistinct tracks but in both cases there was other information in the terrain that should have alerted me before rather than after the fact. Also small misses near the control at 2 and 14 (and a poor exit from 2). Could have used toothier shoes, but in 'non-race' conditions only a few places off-track that I really felt slowed down.

Run (off-road) 47:45 [3]
shoes: XTalon 2017

Up Horoeka Track (18:30!), then up (and down) the pylon road to the next pylon and back home the same way. Never felt easy - probably good my proposed significantly longer o-gang run was a victim of everyone else's labour weekend injuries or illnesses, especially as last night was pretty much sleepless. But time for ground covered looks better than I expected. WARM!

Run 1:07:00 [3]
shoes: Asics 2017

Roads and riverbank, Heretaunga Park loop. Was easier work than I expected given this was just a (yet another) getting back into the habit effort, but I would definitely say that I've had better, and was never really interested in finding some extra time/distance.

Orienteering race (relay ) 48:20 [4] *** 4.4 km (10:59 / km) +265m 8:27 / km
spiked:11/15c shoes: XTalon 2017

Relay, 1st leg in the 'b race' in typical Hawkes Bay spur gully, mostly farmland but plenty of trees. 11th out of 29 with a mostly smooth run. Mostly speedy juniors ahead apart from Geoff Morrison and Neil Murray. A few controls came into at the wrong height or slowed down before the circle but no more than a minute or 2 in total lost I think, nothing big enough for Winsplits to notice anyway. And route choices I wasn't sure of give me some of my best splits. So while not a huge technical challenge, still a good confidence booster. Physically demanding but with a lot of rough ground I don't know that I would have been much faster even if I was as fit as I should be.
