Orienteering 31:57 [5] *** 3.8 km (8:24 / km)
spiked:36/41c shoes: Asics 2017

Avalon Park, a course of 2 halves. . . Or 2 quarters and one half? Starting and finishing with 2 super intense sections in and around the adventure playground (22 controls in 1.4km total) with a slightly more typical sprint type course in the middle. Unfortunately lost a fair bit of time trying the river crossing in the middle of the middle bit before giving it up as too slippery and had to revert to the long bridge route. Great fun anyway.

Run 32:00 [3]
shoes: Asics 2017

Recovery run, riverbanks from Belmont Domain for a change of scene and to minimise paving!

Note

Routegadget for last week's relay finally up. Or probably has been up for ages but I only just thought of going direct to RG to see if it was there rather than waiting for the link from the nationals website to go live...

Run warm up/down 6:00 [2]

Run race 24:30 [4] 5.0 km (4:54 / km)
shoes: Asics 2017

Wellington waterfront. Thought I should be conservative and found the 25 minute pacer and stayed with her until about 3 km. Was comfortable but didn't have much extra when I tried picking it up. Got there though which was the main thing when all I was looking for was a benchmark. A bit different from the Hamilton Eastside experience with no ups and downs but a lot more civilian traffic to work through. And a stunning evening, but managed to not get distracted on either pass of Oriental Bay

Orienteering 1:04:46 [3] *** 4.4 km (14:43 / km) +280m 11:10 / km
spiked:16/20c shoes: Asics 2017

Casual training at Maidstone Park and surrounds, including a significant area to the NE that I'm pretty sure I've never been before, orienteering or otherwise. Missed going to 4 and possibly 3 due to indistinct tracks but in both cases there was other information in the terrain that should have alerted me before rather than after the fact. Also small misses near the control at 2 and 14 (and a poor exit from 2). Could have used toothier shoes, but in 'non-race' conditions only a few places off-track that I really felt slowed down.

Run (off-road) 47:45 [3]
shoes: XTalon 2017

Up Horoeka Track (18:30!), then up (and down) the pylon road to the next pylon and back home the same way. Never felt easy - probably good my proposed significantly longer o-gang run was a victim of everyone else's labour weekend injuries or illnesses, especially as last night was pretty much sleepless. But time for ground covered looks better than I expected. WARM!
