Orienteering (score) 1:24:00 [3] *** 6.65 km (12:38 / km) +140m 11:26 / km
spiked:28/30c shoes: X Talon 2020

Score OY, Godley Head, with a twist. Not just a 90 minute time limit but also a 30 control (out of 40) limit. So for those with a more tactical head (and faster legs) than mine there was that extra layer of deciding which low point controls to miss even if you were going right past them. Or for those of us that assumed we were unlikely to get 30 controls, then discovered by the halfway mark we'd covered much more ground than expected, it was an exercise in hurriedly working out which controls to add to the planned route home to get up to 30. The end part of my course probably looks rather odd with several changes of mind. To add to the challenge I didn't start my watch until getting my 2nd control, which I would have guessed took longer than 1:45, so thought I had less time in hand near the end than I did. Very tough physically, was struggling to run even on the tracks!

Run 1:14:30 [3]
shoes: Asics Trabuco 2020

The usual local long run - including the usual low expectations, the usual realisation after about half an hour that actually I could at least match the previous effort after all, the usual late decision that I might as well aim to push it up at least another 5 minutes, the usual adding on of strange detours to get the extra time, and the usual regretting the decision as soon as I was committed to it.

...followed up by about 8.5km of walking around town including visits to 8 bars and a museum. Not your average work-do, but then I don't have many average work-mates...

Sprint series, Nga Puna Wai. Physically tough in very warm conditions, and a lot of flat out running in the early part of the course. So by the time I hit the complex bit in the school, my usual aim of having every leg planned by the time I hit it was out the window. So not as smooth as I would have liked through there. Only leg that really suffered was to 13, and I think what I did was probably the best approach, but felt like it took me most of the way to sort out what I was doing. Bigger time loss on 17, on my way past the general area earlier in the course something about the mapping seemed a bit odd so I think I was thinking more about that than what I was supposed to be doing. Otherwise happy!
