Walking 1:00:00 [3]

Down at the farm. Thought I'd run but I haven't run much lately and the thought of the first mile being an uphill slog on a muddy road had no appeal. Decided to walk instead. Met up w Carl who had just finished helping with some logging and he wanted to show me the logging trails. We headed up through the woods and eventually left the trails working our way back out to the road. He returned for a pruning saw and I headed up to the top of the hill. Was able to stay on top of the snow where someone had already snowshoed, but when I chose to check out the Christmas tree field, I quickly tired of post holing and decided to follow the snowshoe tracks instead. Made it to the highpoint (but did not go to the very top), then headed back via my usual route on the old ski trail. Lovely walk. Nice views, as always.

Encountered some huge canid tracks. Too big for a fox or coyote and too long a span for a small dog. Curious. Lots of other tracks: rabbit, squirrel, fox, vole, mouse, deer.

Got back to the house and scouted the site for my sugaring set up. Not sure where it would be best. Scouted maple trees. Looks like it will be easy to do 15-18 buckets within 100 m of the barn. Spent the first 90 minutes there cleaning sap buckets and lids. Looking forward to tapping in March.
