Walking 20:00 [2]
Met Charlotte at Switchback Brewery (to park) and attempted to walk along Lake Champlain starting at Oakledge Park. Brought my microspikes but she did not so we were very limited as to where we could go. The recent rain and freezing temps has frozen the footprints and the irregular walking on ice was quite hazardous. We explored the giant treehouse then headed north but the path near the standing stones was all ice and heading into the shady woods so we bagged it. Sunshine was wonderful though and wind was not an issue. Returned to cars and headed up to the new City Market in the South End for a light dinner, tea, and a visit before I headed to the Flynn to work the Banff Mountain Film Festival.
I wonder if it is possible to make a 15-25 minute film which would be of the character and intensity that would make it eligible for this festival. The exposure of orienteering to outdoor enthusiasts would be phenomenal. Would it feature a single athlete or a few, highlight one area or several, show off beautiful sights and natural wonders? Perhaps a small group on a road trip up the west coast of the US and Canada: Yukon to BC to WA to SF to SD (w/ Anzo Borrego). I think the inner dialogue that goes on in a competitor's mind is important, and although a race is a solitary endeavor, it might help to feature a few athletes and then show them encountering each other in a race. Would the high tech aspect be featured as well? That is, showing GPS tracking, etc.? The emphasis must be on the physicality, the physical and navigational challenges, and the intimate interaction with the terrain. And it should also look like fun. And have some humor. There have been some good short short films of late, but nothing that fits into the spectrum of this film festival. I'll continue to dream.
