Hiking 40:00 [1]
Hardy Plant Club foray to search for rare Maidenhair ferns on a serpentine outcrop near Lowell, VT. Mostly pretty slow walking since a group of biology enthusiasts has to stop and look at EVERYTHING. We did find the usual Eastern Maidenhair and some of the rare Western Maidenhair. We had hoped to find the hybrid Grreen Mountain Maidenhair but since the group was so large (about 20), our guide thought it best to not scramble on the steep rocks. Lucky me, the botanist leader rode in my car, so on the way home, we stopped to see a small population of it that he knew about. It was great fun. Wonderful to be in the woods, off trail.
