Orienteering race 1:13:27 [5]

British Champs Callaly & Thrunton W35L 6.7km 280m
It was always going to be hard to do a fast time from first start but I did try! Waded quite well through the first half of the course, turning on 3 controls on the way. Didn't enjoy the 2.5km path run in the middle funnily enough! Last half of the course just tried to be clean and hang in there - would have been nice to have some elephant tracks / other people around for company. Particularly at no 14 where I found a boulder not on the map between the rhody and "real" boulder (and dropped 2 mins, bah!). Very surprised to come 3rd and only 3 mins down on late starting Kim & Jenny.
(Nice to hear Hector reckoned it was 30secs/km slower at the beginning of the day compared to the end!)
Sinuses urg!

Trail/Road running 40:00 [1]

4km walk/jog to the start.

Note

Proper relapse, feeling really stuffed up and ill:-(

Trail/Road running 25:00 [1]

Aborted lunchtime long run. The most tired I can remember being in 20 months (multiple-child sleepovers) - sinusitis in danger of coming back. Getting stressed by lack of hill training for the quad now.......

Tuesday May 27, 2014 #

Road Biking 56:00 [3]

Sneaky Braco and back whilst H was sleeping and the Simpson-O'Donovan clan were playing. Very steady, headwind there but nice back!

Monday May 26, 2014 #

Note

Nearly shifted this sinusitis .... fingers crossed

Orienteering race 36:38 [5]

Scottish Relays Newtyle Hill Women's Open 4.4km 225m
Not as focused as would have liked with me and hubby running at the same time, but no 1 was far enough away to get my head straight. Fanni gave us an amazing lead and I tried not to lose it. Lost a bit of time coming off the hill as I'd seen EUOC just behind and lost concentration briefly, but they must have lost time too. Fi finished off with an amazing run, giving us the win. Brilliant!

Orienteering race 49:33 [5]

Scottish Champs Dalnamein W35L 6.5km 140m
Much faster underfoot than I remember, or perhaps I'm much fitter?! Ran a pretty good hard race but lost it on the last few controls a bit, thinking about the finish too soon. 1st, and the biggest trophy ever!!

Swimming 15:00 [2]

Lake of Menteith
First ever open water swim, first ever use of new wet suit. An unexpectedly enjoyable experience. Have seriously underestimated how physical open water swimming is though. Swim training in the pool isn't going to do it, so re-planning required.

Orienteering 1:00:00 [2]

South Achray WEE Green
Jogged/walked round trying to keep HR low. Warmed up enough after the OWS to take helly off at no 6, and fingers thawed out after 28 mins!

Monday May 19, 2014 #

Note

Sinuses a lot worse - doc agreed secondary infection and hence AB.
A tad tired!

Terrain running 10:00 [2]

WU/WD - not enough of the latter!
3 AM

Orienteering 1:22:00 [5]

Harvester Women's Relay - Long Night - 8.3km 255m
Bingo-tastic in terms of small depressions - lost loads of time on 3 of these! Luckily everyone did on long night and I pulled up some places. Lots of hard track running - bod a bit stiff on the 10 hour journey home.

Total wipeout for FVO - first in the men's and women's. Excellent job all round! :-)

Terrain running 27:00 [1]

Orienteering 47:00 [2]

Barr Wood hanging controls for the WEE.

Wednesday May 7, 2014 #

Note

Inevitably, H's germs have won. But only just in that annoying not-quite-well-enough-to-train kind of way. Could probably do with a bit of a rest anyhow.

Tuesday May 6, 2014 #

Note
(rest day)

Two lots of 50 points and a 49er - not a bad weekend results-wise!

Orienteering race 52:26 [5]

Kendal Urban Event, Brown, 6.7km 210m
So having been deemed worthy of a 1:7500 map yesterday rather than 1:10k, today we were grouped with the Women's elite!
Tired legs but was determined not to walk.

Orienteering 1:01:33 [4]

Blakeholme and Gummer's How W35L 5.1km 250m
The most family unfriendly category A event ever - epic walks to assembly, no string course, getting told off for the kids playing in the stream, not changing start times. Good job the o was good!
Pretty cold and damp by the time I started. Very unsettled with the open/punching start procedure (just told to start - didn't check to see if there was anyone else on the course). Also unsettled for the first few controls due to the 1:7500 map (they'd put the M60s on the same course as us (??) and we all had to have 1:7500). So not quite as 'in the zone' as yesterday! Got caught out early on in the green (102) binning 5 mins - no proper attackpoint. Not bad in Blakeholme until the one before the crossing point and binned some more time there due to getting distracted by someone asking me something. Another 2 mins. Managed to scrape a very undeserved win on W35L though.

Fan-bloody-tastic! Felt like I was flying and navigation was just about keeping up! Convincing win, yeah!

Swimming 30:00 [3]

First time in a long while but body seemed to remember what to do. Got to build up (courage) to do in open water soon.
