MTB (Majura Pines, ACT) 45:00 [3] 9.0 km (5:00 / km)

Went for a little ride around the new Majura course (together with Richard)to check it out for the weekend. Tested both bikes (my Fuel and Matt Flemings bike with Richard's Fox fork from the Yeti and a new blue Fuel 98 frame triangle as Matt cracked his frame last weekend). The course was reasonably flat and very flowing. About half of the track was reused from last year with some further 25% recycled (but ridden in the opposite direction) and another 25% new. Should be fun!

Road (Commute home) 1:00:00 [3]

Rode richard's commuter home (so he can have a ride on it this weekend - I've stolen his Fox fork from the Yeti for my B-bike...).

Road (Bobbin Head) 3:20 [3] 68.0 km (3 / km)

What a bugger of a day.

Went first via Darvo's house (on mounty's Scott as my Trek is a little unwell) and nearly got killed on Rosedale Rd by a middle aged lady in a Mercedes who obviously was not familiar with the basic concepts "cyclist on the road" and "right of way". After come close to becomng a fixture on her front bumper I arrived at Darvo's house in tears and had to sit down for 10 minutes to stop shaking.

After that we headed together to Bobbin Head. As feared, the road works have started there as well. Loose rocks expected to go on by the end of this week. I then had a flat, and kept struggling with a slow leak after that. Mounty's tyres are well overdue for renewal - I think I'll give him some new ones as a pressie - and give the bke a big clean.

Made it home after having to add air t the tyr every 5-10 minutes.

I thoroughly enjoyed my coffee back home....

Road (West Head) 2:35:00 [3] 60.0 km (2:35 / km)
shoes: Nike Lance

As I destroyed my rear derailleur yesterday and off road is currently too muddie for my bike's health, I had no choice but to head out on Richard's roadie again. Met Dari and Cam for a ride to West Head as Akuna was clearly not an option. Nice casual ride, with West Head road resembling an Adams Family picture: lots of fog combined with numerous dew-covered spiderwebs. As the fog cleared, West Head lookout presented itself in its classic glory.

Road (Akuna / Belrose loop) 2:20:00 [3]
shoes: Nike Lance

Akuna road was closed so went anti-clockwise. At West head turnoff noticed the Akuna road had been resurfaced, so decided to take a look how far it went. Started to roll down the hill. Heaps of loose rocks so had to go very slow for safety reasons. At bottom of the hill had a chat with the contractors doing the job. After a first question "when is the final layer coming on?" answered by "that is the final layer" I realised there was little point in not being frank. We had a friendly chat with bottomline being Akuna is now dead for riding and bobbin Head is awaiting a similar destiny ....
On the way up I got a rock in my rear derailleur which snapped and wrapped itself around the sprocks. I had to call Dick to rescue me. As I had only 45 minutes left from there before kids pick-up I just managed to do another quick Belrose loop on Richard's roadie. With his (uncomfortable) set-up off course.

MTB (Dam / Belrose) 3:25:00 [4]
shoes: Nike Lance

Took the MTB out for the first time since Otway. Still have my Speed King tyres on which made the whole experience a bit of a slog. Surprisingly, the knobby tyres gave pretty poor traction on the rocky parts of Manly Dam and some loose rocky clibs around Belrose. I therefore took it particularly easy on the technical sections to avoid injury. Feeling a bit better as I have had some extra sleep in the past days. Terrain still pretty wet so probably reduced life of my drivetrain a bit today.
Left foot a bit sore - something to watch.

Road (Commute) 55:00 [3] 15.0 km (3:40 / km)
shoes: Nike Lance

Rode the new commuter bike in (Trek 7700) for the first time. Will need to make some further set up improvements (stem too high, and seat tilted too far back), but felt great satisfaction as I crossed the Harbour Bridge and saw the Forest Coah Lines bus stuck in peak hour traffic on my left.

Next time I'll also remember to bring a bra for work... (I ended up going to buy one).

Rode home. Slowly.

Road (Ch pt back via coast) 2:20:00 [2] 58.0 km (2:25 / km)
shoes: Nike Lance

Feeling pretty flat after the intensity of the past days. As my legs were not ging to be very helpful today, I decided to head down to church Point and back via the coast. Nice and flat ride. Very pleasant.

Road (4 gorges) 4:30:00 [3] 110.0 km (2:27 / km)
shoes: Nike Lance

Mounty was at home today, so we headed out together. And Dari. Met Jock as well in St Ives who joined us through Bobbin Head. Maybe Friday should become our social ride from now on? Started off feeling pretty tired, but felt stronger as I went. Limited power on the hills meant I had to spin up the big hills, but I felt really good on the flats and pich climbs. Even managed to put in a bit of a sprint between St Ives shops and Forestway turn-off. Pretty happy overall with my fitness.

Road (Akuna a/c Ch pt 4 gorges) 6:45:00 [3] 158.0 km (2:34 / km)
shoes: Nike Lance

I had taken today off work today to put some extra miles in. Thankfully Darvo offered to join me for part of the ride to make the journey a little less lonely. We headed down to Akuna, and saw at the top that road works were happening. More patchworks. More of the (crappy) same. This is just bordering on ridiculous. In Akuna we were turned around by the road workers - "Road closed". Wasn't that mentioned at the top? Surely it was? Ah well bad luck. See ya. Grr. Back up to the triangle, then down to Church Point. All and all a nice ride. Back in St Ives we split ways and I headed on my own onto a 4 gorges loop. Started feeling pretty sleepy at the Berowra Ferry. No good sign. Fuelled up but went through a funny dip that I can not explain. No hunger flat, just feling really average. Almost felt like I might be getting sick. Eased off on the Galston climb, at which time my tummy had pretty much shut down. Started feling a bit better again by the entrance of Bobbin Head. Not sure what that was all about. Glad to be back home. Early to bed that night as I can't afford to get sick now.

Road (Berowra turn-off return) 3:25:00 [3] 85.0 km (2:25 / km)
shoes: Nike Lance

All psyched up about putting in a big week this week. Unfortunately didn't get away until 11am due to getting-house-tidied-up-for-cleaners requirements. Rode up Kalkari at high intensity. Was most unimpressed how slow I was (10.45) as I was working hard. Then realised my left front brake pad was rubbing on the wheel. Fixed that which felt a lot better. Up to Berowra turnoff then back home in time to pick up the littllies. Feeling pretty good. Rode solidly, but kept some in the tank for tomorrow.

Road (commute) 50:00 [3] 15.0 km (3:20 / km)
shoes: Nike Lance

Rode my roadie into the city and parked it in CSC. Spent 25 minutes chatting to Chris. I really need a commuter bike so I can get to work on time. So I went back to the shop at lunchtime and bought one.

Road (commute) 50:00 [3] 15.0 km (3:20 / km)

Picked up roadie from CSC and rode home. Just in time to pick up kiddies (in riding gear). After school care lady looked at me as if I were an alien. She'll get used to it as I am picking up my commuter soon...
