15ishmin warm down/running with sarah round some of the course, and across the line as a team :D

(injured) shoes: Saucony grid type A3 (racing f

Stride for Success relay at uni...i ran after all our team had ran once and also matt and toby again :P
was real fun!! was rather smashed as ran quite hard and the killer hill in the middle of Albert Park kills you and slows u down so much!!

(injured) shoes: Saucony grid type A3 (racing f

My second lap after a few of the others running a few laps...
was rather tired, but was only like 1sec slower :P
dont actually know what climb was, just guessing...was pretty damn steep tho

we ended up winning which was awesome as!! :D we each got a pair of Nike shoes free! hmmm what to get? :P So fun, and awesome for a free entry race

Running long 2:36:50 [3] 17.8 km (8:49 / km) +700m 7:22 / km
(injured) shoes: X-Talons 190 (red)

Greta and I did a long run in the Waitaks...We got a bit confused in places and I think we went on all the really tough tracks which were impossible to run down and up at times...they were super muddy and went down to a stream, then back up the other side...this happened like 4 times throughout the run...so pace was super slow here :P We surprisingly felt pretty good towards the end and were running pretty well :)

dont know what climb was?? It was a lot!! my garmin said 1490m...which is heaps!! so not sure...

Friday Apr 27, 2012 #

2 PM

Running warm up/down 11:34 [3] 2.16 km (5:21 / km)
(injured) shoes: Asics GT 2170

warm up before ultra sprint...needed to do this as the legs a bit niggly in places

Orienteering race 7:30 [5] 1.53 km (4:54 / km)
(injured) shoes: Asics GT 2170

Ultra Sprint Race day at Barry Curtis Park...did 3 courses, then the top four in each grade had a final sprint off...was cool as!! never done this fast thinking, tricky orienteering before :) Loved it!

Map A- did ok...a bit iffy in the maze part, and didnt realise there was an enlarged part on the side of the map till after...oops

Orienteering race 6:58 [5] 1.4 km (4:59 / km)
(injured) shoes: Asics GT 2170

Map B- did ok-ish on this one...started running the wrong way to the maze, well realised as soon as i had missed the turn off, so then turned back, so missed a little bit of time there...maze not so great again...just feeling a bit slow i guess :/

Orienteering race 8:43 [5] 1.7 km (5:08 / km)
(injured) shoes: Asics GT 2170

Map C- oopsy...worst one out of all of them :S good start, then screwed up coming out of 5, then at 6 i held my SI card in, but it didnt register, so then tried again and it did...so annoying...then stuffed up going to the maze again, ran down wrong track to start off with...so stupid...Maze ok sort of? stuffed up route coming back to the maze for the 2nd time, went long way round and was so confused...:/

Running 8:00 [2] 1.0 km (8:00 / km)
(injured) shoes: Asics GT 2170

slow jog between the races
3 PM

Orienteering race 9:13 [5] 1.92 km (4:48 / km)
(injured) shoes: Asics GT 2170

Final- was a mass start with the top 4, so Laura, Greta, me and Jula... had a new part to the map where there was a big circle with 3 controls in it, and we could get them in any order at that part of the course. We sorted our placings out pretty early (Laura, Greta, me then Jula)...nearly got wrong one at the tree one just before maze for the first time, then got the wrong one just before the maze for the 2nd time, realised, then had to turn back and get right one... overall incredibly fun and cant wait to do something like this again!! :D very tired now :P

Running warm up/down 17:57 [3] 3.1 km (5:47 / km)
(injured) shoes: Asics GT 2170

Warm down with Greta, Jula and Laura and Nelly(the dog) for about 10min, then the last bit with Immy :)

Running intervals 33:34 [5] 6.2 km (5:25 / km)
(injured) shoes: Asics GT 2170

6x1km but they were a bit shorter as stopped when the guys did so we had same recoveries of 2.30min...we had a lot of hills in each rep, so was super tough! some really steep hills! I felt rather slow today :/ just not feeling atm...hopefully soon :/ was still fun to do them again, and it got dark just on the last one really :)

Running warm up/down 10:28 [3] 1.64 km (6:23 / km)
(injured) shoes: Asics GT 2170

easy jog back home with Jula, James and Matt

(injured) shoes: Asics GT 2170

Saturday Apr 21, 2012 #

Note

was going to train later when i was home, but was so tired and i had some study to do :(
8 AM

Orienteering 40:00 [2]
(injured) shoes: Icebugs

Putting out base stations and checking control sites...also went out again later with Duncan to put Radio controls out...this was for NISS champs...
Was impossible to run through some of the paddocks as they had super long grass, and it was really early, so it was really wet...was hard at the start as feet just froze up and were like ice blocks...very hard to run around...
2 PM

Orienteering 35:00 [2]
(injured) shoes: Icebugs

Collecting controls afterwards...had quite a few, so was tough to carry them all in the end...

Friday Apr 20, 2012 #

Note

Decided it was time for a rest day...felt really tired, and worked 10-5 so wasn't quite used to standing on my feet :P would be dark if i trained and would have to train alone...so maybe a good choice :P

Running 55:15 [3] 10.22 km (5:24 / km)
(injured) shoes: Asics GT 2170

12 PM

Running 39:44 [3] 7.5 km (5:18 / km)
(injured) shoes: Asics GT 2170

Arch good today, although achilles all weird??think it was running different yesterday and the lack of stretching after running recently :/ it was tight and making a small pop noise when I was bending down this morning..so I decided to take an easy run and warm it up then do a good stretch after,...think it helped a little, but will have to be careful on the next few runs...

11 AM

Running warm up/down 20:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Icebugs

10min warm and 10min warm down
Bit tired and slow from whole weekend and the surprise 21st everyone threw me the night before :D was so cool!

Orienteering 40:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Icebugs

O training with National squad+others...must say, it is blimmin wicked we have a pair of coaches like Jean and Al to spend time with us and helping us actually become awesome at orienteering :P
we went in pairs for this training...I went with Amber...we were given a map and it had the start triangle(where we all were) and one control on it...we were told to navigate there and then come back...not too speedy, just at our pace...we could come back a different way if we wanted too...
After that, we were then told the point of the exercise :P we had to get our maps take off us straight away, then I had to draw for amber what I remember/what would help her navigate to that control...so all she had was my hand drawn map :P Was pretty funny...wernt allowed words etc...so it was simply just a simplification exercise and getting us to think over how we orienteer naturally and what we see and think...we did this a few times...although one of ambers maps, I had no perception of how far I had to go, and ran way too long and had no idea what the map was telling me :P it was a pretty good interpretation, although I got tripped up my having no scale :P
fun times!

Monday Apr 9, 2012 #

11 AM

Running warm up/down 25:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Icebugs

10min warm up before the relay...
15min warm down with Immy and Ang after the relay

Running 34:31 [3]
(injured) shoes: Icebugs

Nationals Relay
I was in the 2nd team with Hamish G on first leg and Devon B on 2nd leg... Hamish had an awesome run, and actually wasn't too far behind Duncan and with some of the other guys like Martin peat etc :P
then Devon had an ok run...but we were already quite a bit behind from the leading teams at this stage...
I had an average run...felt i could have run a lot quicker...wish I had someone to push me along :P
Lost about a minute or so to #9...really screwed it up...didnt judge how far I had come correctly, and also was off my compass a bit :/ lost a little bit on 10...
then...picked up 173 instead of 172 in the map change...fml!! I was certain I had got 172...maybe it looked like a 2 to me when I was tired? grr...stupid mistake...should have double checked...
so anyway there was only one split difference on the 2nd loop and it was #13..they were so close to each other too...I actually ran past my actual control.. :S stuffed up 14 a bit...wrong exit direction and ended up on other side of the hill...and exit direction was wrong for 15 too...came out at track way down, then had to run quite a way...the rest were all good.
So angry that i did that...sad that I missed punch for our team too :/ I managed to put the map back on the fence when I finished so that team could get the right one, as they hadnt gone through the map change yet...pheww...

11 AM

Running warm up/down 25:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Icebugs

about 15min warm up before the race and around 10min warm down with Angela after

Orienteering race 40:29 [5] 4.7 km (8:37 / km) +175m 7:16 / km
(injured) shoes: Icebugs

National Middle Distance
Managed to have a pretty 'safe' race today...took it quite easy in the beginning and tried to be clean as the map was super tricky...managed to be in control, and when I felt a bit hesitant, I would just stop and re-check...seemed to work pretty well :)
Did a little bit of a stuff up at 8 and lost 17sec...rather slow and hesitant to 14...but was just being careful, although should have taken the alternative route choice to mine...slow running legs and average route choice to 19...
I knew that I had actually had a pretty steady race coming through the spectator, so I knew I had to hold it together in the last loop so I could do well...I was focussed, but maybe a bit too much...was stopping and checking the map a bit more than I maybe should have? Ran a bit too fast down to 25 and didnt check my compass and ended up too far left and just stood there looking confused, before i realised and actually got it...lost 23sec there (eek! as I got beaten by Greta by 23sec in the end! :S) Bit slow to 27, very tired :P and had a fast finish :)
Ended up in 2nd, which I am so happy with as was hoping for a top 2 finish today...apart from a few small things, I was so happy with how I navigated today as it was just so tough! really tricky terrain...looked like the France maps from last year...they should have totally used today and yesterdays maps for world cup...would be awesome! the foreigners would love it!! oh well...
By the way, winsplits and routegadget are wrong...they have left out control 11...so after 10, every control on winsplits is actually the one after...
Was such an awesome course and map...very well done! It was a shame we didn't have control descriptions as it was hard to keep on flowing whilst unfolding and refolding your map all the time :S oh well...at least our course didnt get invalidated :)

11 AM

Running warm up/down 25:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Icebugs

15min warm up on the warm up map...very tricky, but seemed to get the hang of it fairly quickly :) ...ran down to the start triangle on the warm up map and the start wasn't there...got so confused and a little stressed out trying to run around finding the start :P
10min warm down...some small jogging, then a small jog with Amber and James after they had finished

Orienteering race 1:22:01 [5] 7.2 km (11:23 / km) +480m 8:33 / km
(injured) shoes: Icebugs

My first time running elites Long Distance at Nationals...super tough and long than what im used too :P
Managed to have a pretty steady start, pretty clean-ish...then the long leg was very hesitant and lost a bit of time here and there...then number 10 and 11 were very poor route choices so lost a little there....then #12 was a biggy :( think i did the same as imogene :S i started running down the sand, then realised the strip will be too shit, so ran back up the sand on a hill for a bit which was so tiring and really stupid of me...then back down the big open sand to the white forest, which i just ran on my compass till i hit the big depression clearing thing...but i went to the wrong one...the big one more to the right, so then i ended up near the track and had to figure it out again and get to the control...grr silly me :P
then after the spectator, I was just super exhausted...hardly running :/ I think I really needed to take a leppin or something to keep me focussed on that last bit...i was just so messy and all over the place...
At 14 I was 6sec behind Greta, then I lost 3 and a 1/2mins on the last loop just from my messyness and slowness :S eek...need practice at this...
overall an ok run apart from a few errors...felt like some of my techniques were really good which was positive to know :) foot a little sore near the end, but nothing to bad..
Got 4th, 5.30min down from Amber...yay she won! :D

Friday Apr 6, 2012 #

Running warm up/down 20:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Saucony grid type A3 (racing f

around 10min warm up on the warm up map and around 10min warm down with Amber

Orienteering race 17:25 [5]
(injured) shoes: Saucony grid type A3 (racing f

Nationals Sprint

This was a really fun course! Really challenging!
I actually was not very happy with my race, but there were some good things about it.
felt like I took a while to get into the map in the first few controls...stuffed up #4 as the sides of the stairs had huge walls on each sides, and I just got soo confused and lost 30sec!! :( After that, I was just trying to orienteer a bit cleaner...I was just so hesitant and couldn't see some of the controls around corners etc...stuffed up 12 as i thought i was maybe to early as it was behind this tiny corner on the building... then #19 i went down into the stream, then realised it was up above, although there was a huge impassable wall which was marked as passable, so had to go all the way back around to get to it...Apparently I lost 6 sec to Greta just in the finish chute, which is really weird as i went real hard and pulled away from tessa and mace, although they have faster splits than me?? so weird?? possibly both the finish controls were not in sync, which is terrible for a sprint!!! Some of the dead heaters may have been faster than others etc... bit dodgy :/ at nationals, surely u would make sure this is right??? oh well... :/ If I was only a few seconds behind Greta, then maybe I would have something to really complain about, but it doesnt effect me that much, but for some maybe??? :S
other than the mistakes and average flow, I was happy with a few quick route choice decisions, and my overall placing of 2nd in my first year of elites... :)
Bring on 2mw...it'll b tough!!! 7.2km with 480m climb!! sheeesh!!!
