Running (O @ Marymoor Park) 58:00 [3] 8.5 mi (6:49 / mi)

15min warm-up. Course 7 = 6.9k. I wanted to do good today (in terms of running strong). However, I got tired around the 15th control and backed off the throttle a little. I ran without the plastic baggy and so I had to be careful not to rip the map as it was getting wet from my sweaty hands. It was ripped up a bit by the last two controls but I knew where to go from there. On the first control, I took off in a hurry and did not get a good visual of where I was going. I stopped too soon and looked at my map for a while. On #3, I had the sun in my face and actually ran right past it and did a big circle around the thicket. With the sun still in my face, I could not get a good visual of what was in front of me so I just jogged slowly until I found the canal and then headed for #4. On #5, I was tempted to go through the dog park but went around instead. I tried to figure out what I was going to do on the next several controls because they were in any order and I wanted to have a plan (i.e. what control to skip). #6,7,8 were easy and I did not run too hard because the ground was uneven and there were several unmarked-like trails that I didn't want to be lured into due to hasty decisions. From #8, I almost started heading off to #9...but once I got to the road, I went to #12,11,10,9. From #9, I could have used a compass (which I didn't bring along) to help me head in the right direction. I was a little dazed at this time and ran down to the trail that went near the dog park. I went to the north side of the parking lot and followed some guy through some sticker bushes. They were just branches but when I ducked underneath them, I felt how stiff my whole body was. When I got to #17, I quickly made the decision to omit #21 as I had been looking at an old map yesterday and knew from past experience that that area is difficult to spot controls and run in. So I headed to #18,19,20...which come to think about it, going to 20 then 19 would have been faster. Oh well. I cut through the undergrowth to #22 and that made me do high knees, which really winded me. Running around would have been faster/easier but I did not know that the "paths" were not very friendly. Anyhow, I was pretty exhausted by now and stopped at one light pole too soon and looked for the control before looking down at the next light post and seeing it right in the open. After #25, I went over the fence and in doing so, I somehow slammed my balls on the log and caused myself tremendous pain. After grunting and running across the street for no reason, I came back to the other side, ducked under the fence this time, and landed right in the canal which was almost waist deep. I did not need to do that...there was a path 2 feet away. With soaked shoes and tights, I followed the main road to #27, cut in too early, and went the long way around the tree. I was a little frustrated that I had to run back away from the finish to #28 because my body was tired and my left upper glute was throbbing (like on the last hill repeat at Dash Point 3 days before pulling the hamstring). Hopefully no further damage was done to my hamstring. According to Google Earth, my route = 5.2mi and my time was 36:14. I did a 5 minute "cool-down" ~30min later. My hamstring was throbbing on the drive home.
