Adventure racing race 4:00:00 [5] ** 38.0 km (6:19 / km) +1000m 5:35 / km
shoes: Jalas flx

Basic level sprint adventure race. 1st 4 person mixed team and 1st overall. Wicked mountain bike downhill of 600 vertical metres. Good trek section through a river gorge that caught us out a bit with the depth of the pools. Navigated well and took a gamble on unmapped tracks that paid off bigtime. Very warm conditions (for April in NZ) of 25 C with no cooling breeze.

Running tempo 45:00 [3] 9.0 km (5:00 / km)

Very hot afternoon run, 29 C and strong sea breeze. Felt lethargic and slow, partly due to bike yesterday. Worked hard into wind, had a cool down and stretch at end.

First ride for several weeks. Cool and breezy with firm headwind for last 12km. Mostly spinning to keep cadence high. Several small hills

Orienteering race (Long Distance) 1:24:51 [5] *** 6.6 km (12:51 / km) +310m 10:25 / km
spiked:15/20c shoes: Jalas flx

NZ Champs classic distance. Wobbly at start, only spiking two of first six controls. Managed to steady the ship but lost 12 minutes in first third of race. Won some legs and regained concentration, lost 2 mins on second last control to slip from 2nd to 3rd, well behind winner. Struggled with mapping interpretations on new pine forest map. Grunty hills but climbed well
