Run race 2:14:00 [3] 13.1 mi (10:14 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Trance Black
What a fabulous day!!!
Began the race at 7:30. Made it through the entire race without one drop of rain. There was a bit of wind causing hats to fly off heads which made me giggle.
My favorite part of the day was having Ryan there in the morning to see me off and arriving at the finish line to see Ryan and my sister cheering. Made my heart happy. Also loved seeing people cheering for loved ones on the course...waiting for that one racer who maybe has never completed a race before. Little girls running up to their mommas or aunties giving them hugs. That stuff makes me weep.
I won't bother downloading my splits because the garmin cut out during the tunnel. My favorite part of the race course is after cresting 5th Avenue you have a long descent in which you can see hundreds of people pounding the pavement ahead of you. The sun is just starting to come up. Beautiful sight.
I forgot how dang hilly this course is. I distinctly remembered the gradual climb up 5th and the steep climb coming off Lake Washington Blvd. But I forgot all the others. The switchbacks and slight incline on Interlaken was mentally tough since we were only 8-9 miles in at that point. Along this road there were signs honoring patients of blood cancers. Got a little lump in my throat as I thought of my daddy. Then I saw a sign at Mile 11 (also uphill) that said "Your body isn't feeling the pain. It's only in your head."...or something like that. So I told my body and brain to 'shut up" and that seemed to get me through. :)
I did this race for my own sense of accomplishment, but so many of my thoughts throughout the day were of my hubby, how much I love that man and wanting to make him proud.
First time I did this race in 2:39. Second time I did this race in 2:29. Today...2:14. Major PR. Can't wait to see further gains (or rather losses).
Oh yeah...nutrition....pretty basic. Protein pancakes and spark for breakfast. Water and gatorade on the course. 1-2 chomps every 2 miles or so. Slam at Mile 10.
