Cycling 1:30:00 [1]

Once again, I'm combining two workouts into one, since they were identical and fairly uneventful. The temperature should go back to normal-esque tomorrow, so I'll be back in business. Tuesday starts the FT nordic workouts, which I'm conflicted on. I don't... entirely... want to do them. At least not every week, but odds are I will once again be the only one to ever show up. Which ticks me off because I'm obligated to operate against my own schedule for no one in particular. I'll go this week, but I don't know how long I will be able to keep it up. If I do what I feel obligated to do again this season, then I'll just be doing the same rut as I have for the last many, many years.

Today I learned about:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ajax_(1921_automobile)

I was close to clicking "random article" again, after reading this one, because it was only a sentence long. However, that would go against the mantra of learning whatever came up. With a bit more digging, though, did you know that there have been many cars named "Ajax" over the years, one from Switzerland, one from France, and one from America, and, (not surprisingly) the worst was the American version? Crazy!

Running 1:15:00 [1] 12.37 km (6:04 / km)

Took, Patrick's tweet a few weeks ago about it being time HTFU and went out for a jog in the -23. The wind wasn't great, but I was dressed enough that the rest of me was fairly comfortable. Got chased by more dogs today than I do when its +25. Good god I hate dog owners. Not exactly the fastest run I've ever done either, seeing as how I usually do that loop about 20 minutes faster.

Cycling 45:00 [1]

Jumped on the trainer for an afternoon spin. Really nothing special, save for I did my back core routine again, which I quite like, its short and sweet, I'll have to add it to the other repetoire.

Also, bought my mic today, sounds pretty good, half the size I thought it was going to be. Very cool. Will whip an intro, and then try out some recording w/ my sister in the Caymans and then I'll be good to go. Who's going with me?

Here's what I learned today

Did you know that California still has colleges, and they're not completely broke yet? Crazy! Yeah.... I'm really reaching on this one. They can't all be gems.

Cycling 1:20:00 [1]

In the interest of convenience, I'm combing two trainer workouts. I did the one in the morning assuming in the afternoon I'd go for a run, but the afternoon was way windier and cold, so I wussed out and did another trainer workout. Tomorrow is gym pass day, so my four months of treadmills and weights begins. Start off with some endurance strength 15RM stuff.

Gave some thought to crafting a training guide for our Canadian orienteers. Nothing too preachy, but more of a collaborative effort where we I could start stuff, and people could add in their own ideas to create a collection of workouts, training sessions, strength exercises, core stuff, etc. Like a wiki-manual, of sorts. But, more specific to the actual running side of things. But, I won't start preaching on that topic again.

Here's what I learned today:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fricker

Did you know that there apparently isn't a word, "Fricker", which I would presume meant somebody who said 'frick' a lot as a replacement for swearing, as in the phrase "Frickin' frickedy frick frick!"? Crazy!

Running 1:30:00 [1] 13.77 km (6:32 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 X-Talon 212

Well, that wasn't the most intense run I've ever done. But, seeing as how I do 90% of my workouts alone, its not a major sacrifice to run slower to have some occasional company. And she seemed to actually be trying to run a bit faster, versus some of the guys I occasionally run with who just will not run any faster, no matter how much subtle prodding I do. Also, bloody windy. Winter storm here tomorrow, should be fun!

Today I learned about (while rocking out to a mash-up of Skrillex and Rage against the Machine, awesome)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Junctional_epidermoly...)

Did you know that this is a skin condition that causes blister formation in the something of the somewhere I have absolutely no comprehension of? Crazy!

Running 1:30:00 [4] 18.79 km (4:47 / km)
shoes: inov-8 Oroc 280

Well, that was a fairly tough workout. 12 x 4 minutes at 10km-ish pace. Funny how the 10km pace is so different when its 15 x 2 versus 12 x 4! And you're no longer running with a group who practically sprints the rest periods too. Still, tough workout. Was going to ride the trainer after indoor soccer in the afternoon, but opted out. I guess I'll need to do some tomorrow morning, or maybe go for a slightly longer run in the evening.

As I side note, I'm totally loving the White Panda's new mash-up. And their one with Adele and Avicii. Awesome. And the Robert Miles & Ellie Goulding one. Hell, they're all good. Listen to 'em, stat.

Anyway... what did I learn today?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_H._MacDonald

How would you feel if you're fighting in the Second World War, and you see the name on the side of the plane that strikes fear into the enemy's heart: "Putt Putt Maru"? Crazy intimidating?

Cycling 1:00:00 [1]

Forgot to log yesterday, I suspect it was because I read some of those discussion threads and got pissed off about the jerkwads on this stupid site. Orienteering websites are clearly not immune to internet dickishness, though in this case I sometimes know who they are. We got a bit of winter yesterday, so, I figured I prefer my skull uncracked, and rode the trainer instead. Its showing signs that I should probably go get my gym pass. Hooray and boo-urns.

This morning (and therefore yesterday, I learned):

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%81ngel_Pesta%C3%B...

Did you know that his quote was "The trade-unionists will act lawfully [only] as long as the law is respected.", yet he was an anarchist? Isn't respecting the law the opposite of anarchy? Crazy!
