Nordic (classic) race 1:20:00 [3]

Devon Loppet, first time in Devon. Basically, it was 10k of double poling. And if you recall my recent sentiments about the relevance of arm muscles in running (they slow you down), this was not a pleasant time. I wasn't able to work hard enough or get moving fast enough to really move out of zone 2/3 the entire race. It was less than fun and a painful reminder that I'm really really not a skier anymore. Or at least perhaps that I shouldn't hate climbs quite as much as I've always proclaimed to. Man what I wouldn't have given for a bit of striding.

Note

Was going to ride my trainer, but I straight up forgot. Was working on a new map I spent most of my non-working/training part of the weekend on, and the time just disappeared! Curses!

Running intervals 1:40:00 [3] 19.69 km (5:05 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 X-Talon 212

Did a combo orienteering/tempo workout. Made up a course that traversed Laurier park (land of poop and off-leash dogs), and then finished up in Hawrelak where I polished off another 25 minutes. So, all told, about 27 / 25 for a just over 50 minute tempo workout. Briefly had a spell where I forgot to re-start my GPS after a pee break and missed out on some distance. Probably would've been just over 20k, but whatevs.

Feet quite unhappy by the end. Legs felt good though.

Cycling 45:00 [1]

Rode the trainer followed by some basement lunges and core.

Note

Went downstairs to ride my trainer and.... fell asleep. Awesome.

Nordic (skating) intervals 1:35:00 [3] 27.6 km (3:27 / km)

7 x 7 minute intervals w/ 3 minutes rest at... cruise-y pace. I don't tend to either look at my HR or my pace while skiing, so its all about feel. The conditions were fairly good, so I felt good. In particular, my arms felt pretty good, getting pretty good power on climbing, and very strong on the flats. Come to think of it, though, the snow was really quite fast. Aimed to keep the HR relatively high on the rest period as well, so averaged about 160 on the intervals and scaled it back to 135-40 during the rest period. So, it was like a tempo+ / tempo- workout. Like how a 30k race feels.

Also finally gave the new boots a shot, and they're significantly better. I can now officially say I'm a Fischer Ski & Madshus Boot athlete. NNN is the shiznit.

Cycling 45:00 [1]

Same standard cycle workout followed by basement strength. As far as I'm concerned, if its not in the gym, its not log-worthy. Definitely worthy of some burn in the hamstrings, though.

Cycling 1:00:00 [1]

Trying to stay off my foot a bit, so jumped on the trainer again.

Then went and played two more hours of soccer. Yes, I am the author of my own demise.

Cycling 1:00:00 [1]

Foot avoidance training. Mild regrets of not having bought a gym pass.
