Cycling 1:00:00 [1]

Hopped on the cycle after the shop. Kind of managed to make the trainer stop making that grinding noise. I can't quite figure out what it is that's making the noise, but, at least made it shut up, for now.

Nordic (skating) 1:15:00 [1] 17.0 km (4:25 / km)

Probably more of a zone 0 ski today, better than last week, at least. Went back to strathcona. Lovely weather, conditions rapidly deteriorating. Where the snow was still good, the snow was really good and the grooming was amazing. Its nice to be able to go for a ski where you can actually glide on a ski without it catching in a rut. Or a shoe hole, or dog poop. Or 7,000 more ruts.

Unfortunately, some sections were getting a tad barren. In retrospect I should've stayed longer and continued to ski, but the rest of the crew wants to go for cappos and cinnamon buns. So I guess we did that. Poor planning on my part.

Nordic (skating) tempo 1:00:00 [3] 18.04 km (3:20 / km)

Holy criminy, the conditions were awful. Naturally I had to go early because of working at 10. So, that meant the snow was rock hard. No time to melt, so it was sketchy as all get out. And, since all the groomers do at Goldbar is roll, it was essentially a continuing trail of ice and tears.

Short on time, so did a 10 minute warm-up, followed by 40 minute tempo and 10 minute cool-down, and then booted it to the shop. If I was there later it would've warm-up and shorts and t-shirt would've been order of the day. + double digits. Cripes.

Cycling 30:00 [1]

So, hopped on the trainer post-shop for a spin. Got to about 30 minutes, and then the trainer decided to start making a horrifying SCREEEEEEE metal on metal noise. Stopped, took the thing apart, tried to figure it out, remembered I'm not at all handy, put it back together, and still make horrifying noise.

And, that was the end of the that workout.

Nordic (skating) 1:30:00 [3] 25.01 km (3:36 / km)

Gave my Fischer S-tracks a try for once. Unfortunately, by the evening, the conditions were no longer S-track. Whoops! Instead it was a rutted, wobbly mess. Got chased by an off-leash dog. *head explodes*.

Did a 6 x 8 minute workout, where the middle two were legs only. I actually felt like the last interval felt the best, good speed over the top of the hills, nothing felt too fatigue. Which if nothing else suggests I didn't go too crazy on the first five. Nice night to be skiing. Conditions rapidly deteriorating. The race skis will likely be put away after this weekend. Bummer.

Nordic (classic) 1:00:00 [1] 13.44 km (4:28 / km)

So I had it all planned out. Go to the office early, then leave early and go for a ski mid-afternoon in the sun and warmth. And then I get a call saying I had to fill in at the shop because someone went home sick. 3 hours later, its 6 and my skis is now in the cold and dark. Very disappointing and annoying. My flexibility is being taken advantage of by people who have some clearly questionable immune systems (Kiwis).

Nordic (classic) 1:10:00 [3] 15.84 km (4:25 / km)

Thanks to the recent snow, the conditions don't suck too much. Well, they still kind of suck, because we have terrible groomers. They groom at 10 in the morning, don't put in any classic tracks on the uphills, and will never, ever renovate, only roll. So come spring its a rock hard, rutted path of ice. Terrible.

Anyway, for some reason they decided not to groom classic tracks, except for occasional stretches of 100m, so I was mostly breaking trail through a bit of new snow, and it was quite slow. Didn't have a ton of time since I was off to the office afterwards, but managed to get in a pleasant 3 x 12 minute w/ 3 minutes of session. Still working on developing a big aerobic engine, though that has of course been seriously curtailed by the lack of running. Hopes for 10-14 hours/week have dwindled to 7-9, and no end in sight. Rather than a piercing pain its now more of a dull ache.

A little catch--up in order. Today, a re-run. An hour on the bike. *jazz hands*
