Running 1:40:00 [1] 17.15 km (5:50 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 X-Talon 212

Headed out to do a slightly longer run in the finally nice day. According to the radio the sun hadn't been out since October 22. Sounds about right. Everything started to get a bit melty as the sun came out and it got warmer. Had a dog jump at me. Its amazing how many of my runs end with me fuming about how much I hate other people's dogs. I hate them so much.

Then headed over to the ski swap to see how my stuff was selling. Pretty quiet there, so I went to the shop to see what was going on over there. IT WAS CRAZY. This always happens on ski swap day, but this was new levels of crazy. People everywhere, trying skis, but then also trying shoes. At one point our ski stand in the back room fell over under the weight of so many skis that people have not picked up yet. It was a gonger, but hit a new record of sales in a Sunday. So I'm pretty roasted now.

Running tempo 1:20:00 [3] 15.91 km (5:02 / km)
shoes: Saucony Mirage

Tempo-ish run with morning training at Fast Trax. Its meant to be progression, so unlike last week, I progressed much more solidly. First 30 minutes out were comfortable and slowly ramp-y up until the last 15 minutes which were solidly in tempo mode. Cardiovascularly I felt fine, but my legs got quite grumpy with all the pavement.

However, it wasn't all pavement, there was a bit of a layer of unpacked snow and some ice, and I didn't wear trail shoes, so I definitely suffered a bit with lack of grip. You can really feel how inefficient you can be with bad footwear.

Do the right thing people, buy 12 pairs of shoes.

Running 50:00 [1] 7.84 km (6:23 / km)
shoes: Saucony Mirage

Legs and gullet not feeling the love tonight, felt quite slow and unhappy. The soft and un packed trails didn't help either. Nevertheless, its important to get out anyway.

Running 45:00 [1] 8.0 km (5:38 / km)
shoes: Saucony Mirage

It was snowing pretty heavily this morning, so the most logical thing is to skip work and go out into it. It was great. I love running in a snowstorm. Almost better than skiing in a snow storm. Naturally it was a tad slow and I was soaking wet, but still, great. And yes, then eventually I did go into work.

Running 1:15:00 [1] 11.91 km (6:18 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 X-Talon 212

And then I thought, heck, I'm not doing anything this evening, let's go out again! And so I did. The deep snow made it progressively slower and hard work, but the trails were 100% deserted except for the jerkwad couple and their dog on the Hawrelak bridge which is completely not an off-leash area.

In fact, according to the City website, a large portion of the area is not off-leash area. Granted, the map on the website is highly mis-leading when compared to the signs out in the real world. I think most dog owners would have a heart attack if their precious "dog beach" was taken away. However, the bridge has NEVER been an off-leash area, nor has any area on that side of the river to the north of where the bridge ends. This park infuriates me more than most, and were it not for the fact that I have a lot of gear that says Fast Trax, I'd lip off every single one of them.

Running 1:35:00 [1] 16.52 km (5:45 / km)
shoes: Saucony Mirage

Wednesday evening run with Nev on Halloween. Probably the worst weather for Halloween I've seen in a long time, -10-ish, some light snow, and gust-y winds. Naturally we saw two guys in shorts. One running, one riding a bike (and not wearing a helmet). I just don't get that. No one is impressed. You're not going to get a medal. All that's going to happen is judgemental people like me are going to shake their heads and then comment on it on their never-heard-of log.

Some people. Jeez.

Running tempo 1:10:00 [3] 14.71 km (4:46 / km)
shoes: Saucony Mirage

Another tempo run before work. This time only 45 minutes in length. The snow definitely makes things a bit more fatiguing at the cost of speed. No matter, its effort that counts, though it would be nice to be able to do tempo effort at a good tempo pace too. But, pavement just hurts my legs so much.

Note

First indoor game of the year, and it was, honestly, kinda meh. I'm not sure I'll go on a regular basis. My feet didn't hurt, but maybe because I played all summer, I'm not suffering to play. It made my legs quite sore the day after. That's going to disappoint the boss, methinks.

Note

Took a real actual day off. I'm going to try to do this more often, but it means I can't phone it in the rest of the week.
