Orienteering race 1:45:00 [4] 13.84 km (7:35 / km)
shoes: inov-8 Oroc 280

Long at Sage Stomp. At first, I was pleased, I was doing some good things, making some good plans, looking for strong features. But it unravelled a bit, with some bobbles on the far loop. I took a risk at one control where I could have continued to play it safe, and it came back to bite me as I missed it by a minute or so. Two controls later I wasted another two minutes in area that just seemed a little.... off. That's quite common on this map, actually. Its not long its wrong, necessarily, but you just get to some places and you're like.... "huh".

Then I lost the race on the third to last control, really quite easy and I did a bad bearing and was being careless. It was downhill and we all know its easy to run into trouble there. I suppose I was trying to attack it too aggressively?

Orienteering 35:00 [1] 4.18 km (8:22 / km)
shoes: inov-8 Oroc 280

After spending the morning coaching some adults around the contours only course, and being thankful I didn't give them any entirely bad information, I made my way on the 1:15000 line-o back to the camp. I think I did... fairly well. If I ever get around to putting my GPS on the map I'll know for sure.

Orienteering 1:15:00 [3] 9.88 mi (7:35 / mi)

That afternoon, I first had the opportunity to do a bit of a control picking session just by the camp. First we jogged over there, and then I went out and did it, making plenty o' mistakes, then I jogged back for a bit and followed other people around. By this point of the day, most of the masters were really no longer interested in getting advice by us young punks, and basically just wandered away mid-sentence.

You know what Garmin feature I like? "Moving time".

Orienteering 40:00 [1] 3.6 km (11:07 / km)

I took Thursday off even from cycling because my father didn't quite understand the concept of A) cycling is a form of training, and B) I should really do it every day. It was like "Well, you went for a bike ride yesterday".

And... yes. And I should do one today. And probably tomorrow. Maybe twice.

Anyhow, with that established, I trucked over to Kamloops for the Sage training camp. Started off with a night memory-o which went surprisingly bad. I found myself taking 6 steps from the map and forgetting my plan. This was not good. I'm still crippled by irrelevant thoughts. Not bad thoughts, just unimportant ones.

Cycling 1:20:00 [1] 35.94 km (2:14 / km)

Leave it to the weather to massively stunt my cycling training with lots and lots of rain.

Cycling 2:25:00 [1] 68.3 km (2:07 / km)

Went for a delightful long cycle around nowhere interior BC. Took the road out to Mabel Lake until it turned to gravel, and then turned around and went the other way and did the Lumby triangle. Some sections were remarkably smooth, other areas less so, but in general it was quite nice. Shame I don't like road biking more!
