Running 30:00 [1] 5.93 km (5:04 / km)
shoes: Pearl Izumi N1

Only managed to quick in a quickie run before a weekend of.... well, let's just say I'd prefer not to do that again.

Running 55:00 [1] 10.5 km (5:14 / km)
shoes: Brooks Cadence 2

Chomp chomp, the Garmin eats the workout. I think I made it too difficult by actually wearing my heart rate monitor too. Sensory overload! Took some trails around Kohnionjarvi this time. The South side was pretty good, until I cross the railroad tracks and the north side was a slightly overgrown trail for a while. I think its probably worthwhile running it more, though, just to work on my technical running skills, but maybe only when I have trail shoes. Its very twisty with plenty of rocks and roots and branches to the face.

However, I've been thinking a lot about improving my speed through rough terrain, and I did find the kind of cool ridge where I was thinking of doing some up and down intervals. Start at the bottom of one side of the ridge, go hard up, and then hard down, and that's one. Then move 10 meters along the ridge, and do it again. So I have to do my own path finding, and it does some up and some down. I suspect they'll only be about a minute long, enough to put a little jelly in the legs.

Running 50:00 [1] 8.57 km (5:50 / km) +97m 5:31 / km

Argh, this cold just won't go away. I'VE TRIED NOTHING AND I'M ALL OUT OF IDEAS!

At this point I'm just going to continue to run through it, since I've lost patience. I don't feel like I can quite go very fast or do much intensity (um... the races don't... "count"). So, I just try to go out and get in a bit of sweat.

Today I explored to the east to see how long it would take me to run to the first bridge around Jyvasjarvi. Like so many, many loops I've found, it takes about.... 45 minutes. There must be a nice hour long loop around here somewhere.

Orienteering race 1:10:00 [4] 8.57 km (8:10 / km)

Round 2 of Kurko Cup! And I did.... a little bit better! But only a little!

No major major flame-outs, except for maybe number 7, and in general I did some pretty good navigating in conjunction with some pretty awful navigating. Although there was plenty of "white forest" it was really, really thick white forest, especially through the first loops. I managed to hang in there until number 7, until I again suddenly found myself in the dark and made a mistake. Looking at my GPS I think I was really, really close to the control, I just didn't see it, and then screwed around for a while.

I have enough of a hard time keeping on my direction and compass in the light, so all those problems get compounded in the dark. So, I wasted quite a bit of time getting to the road after the first loop, where I compare it to Pavel's route, and he somehow managed to bang-on hit the path in exactly the place I wanted to hit. That's really impressive, and I'm not really sure how I can replicate that.

For better or for worse, I've decided I'm going to upload all the QR's I create from Finland on to my DOMA, regardless of embarrassing mistakes or not. Insults, jokes, advice, crass comments, and constructive compliments are welcome.

Also, does anyone know how to draw your route with that red line that you can then upload to DOMA and it will appear and disappear like you uploaded it from QuickRoute? Here's an example: http://okvaal.com/maps/show_map.php?user=oystein&m...

Orienteering 1:05:00 [3] 10.74 km (6:03 / km)
shoes: Saucony Kinvara TR

Although I'm generally "over" my cold, I'm really not.

Pro tip: Colds probably end faster if you don't race 6 times in 14 days.

I suppose this wasn't technically a race, but I tried to go a bit faster for some intensity. I just can't stop coughing, though.

First go of the "Kortsu Cup", which I'm not sure is really a cup so much as the student group occasionally putting on some loose training. This was a kinda long spring around the area below campus, and the Agora buildings. Not exactly rocket science sprinting, apparently Jyvaskyla is not really a sprinting hot bed. So.... not good for sprinting, terrain is kind of "crap", what am I doing here again?

OH RIGHT, I've almost raced more orienteering races in three weeks in Finland than I did from March to August in Canada.
