I was concerned I wasn't going to get to do anything today. We packed up from Canmore and got going on the road relatively late, and were knowlingly driving directly into a monster snow storm with chaos on the highways. Naturally, when we got past Airdrie, the conditions rapidly deteriorated to about 50 meters of visibility, crazy icy roads, and smash-ups galore. At one point there was a bit of a backup of traffic, so I went off to a side road, and came across the collision itself, at least of the remnants, wherein two now empty cars had slid off the highway, down a hill, through a ditch, crash through a barbwire fence, and settled on the access road, about 30 meters away. I ended up weaving between the two cars, and most alarmingly, driving over the remnants of the barbwire fence the car had dragged with it and strung across the road.
It was a solidly white-knuckled drive after that all the way to Red Deer, before it got better. People driving like maniacs, occasionally zero visibility, and stunningly, many, many people driving without their lights on. People are craaaazy.
Anyway, the point is, I didn't think I had the energy to do anything (that and the temperature tanked from -1 to -19), but I managed to pull myself together and ride my trainer.
Good job, me. But maybe don't complain about it so much next time.
