Orienteering race 1:00:00 [4] 8.0 km (7:30 / km)

Huippu-Liiga race in Porvoo. Yes! I was in the same race as Emily! But, not nearly as much TV time and whole lot more suck. As I'm currently ranked 11th in Finland in sprint, I actually started quite late with all the hotshots. This is one of those sprints where they threw in a few artificial fences and closed a few gates to make the route to number 3 a veritable maze. I ran far too hard for the first 2 while dodging other people and also left number 2 in far too much of a hurry and didn't read the whole leg.

The problem was that the control was in a very tiny, tiny, complicated area, so I spent a lot of my time finding a route to the actual control, and didn't really get to the part of actually reading the rest of the leg. So I winged it. And got burned, and came back.

After that, one feels remarkably discouraged, and I felt out of shape from the last month of injury and sickness.

There was still quite a few legs that I had to go quite slow on as well, as this race had a lot of really ambiguous control locations, like, "corner of building", which is just part of a continuous fence.

Case in point - 7 and 16 (16 was "south corner" by the way)

I saw both of these and had to slow down and try and decipher the control description or you my magnifier to see if there was some sneaky sneaky opening that meant I had to go inside the fence. That kind of thing is just lame.

Oh well, moan moan moan moan moan. Everyone had the same map, and if I hadn't made stupid mistakes and ran faster, I would have gotten more TV time as well. Instead, 3 seconds between interviews. I feel I probably should have been top 20, Antti was 17th and with a solid race I should be able to beat him.

Should have done my hair like they do at Euro, that would have done it!
