Orienteering race 2:40:00 [3]

NOL Newcastle Long Race.

What a long race! 11.6km distance wise isn't too bad- have run multiple races longer this year however today it took me 160 minutes! I think it is the longest time I have run for. I think W21A will be a better option next time! Rather embarrassing. Didn't have too many navigational issues- overshot 12 by a fair way as I was up too high on the hill and then didn't climb enough into 13 so hit the creek too low and had to climb up to the control. I took some longer route choices so I could use tracks or just to be safe. I wish I had worn my GPS- would have been very interesting to see how far I ran.
Shins were really sore when I was running along the tracks- which was quite often. Didn't notice them as much when I was running through the bush.

Orienteering race 23:00 [4]

NOL Sprint Newcastle Uni.

Well what a disaster! My head clearly wasn't in it. I had so many periods of hesitation and confusion! I was really looking forward to this sprint and wanting to perform well but I think it was my worst performance in an NOL sprint to date. Very depressing and embarrassing. Not exactly sure why I had so much difficulty- clearly need to do some more training involving quick map reading and map interpretation.

Orienteering race 51:00 [4]

NOL Newcastle Middle Distance

Another very depressing race. I had a few navigational issues and hesitations but nothing major which I was relatively happy with. I made mistakes on three of the controls in the last loop which was not good! What was most depressing was how many people passed me.. and flew passed me. This weekend has highlighted how I can no longer get away with the level of training I am doing.
My shins flared up again today- they have been really good for the past couple of weeks but today they were the worst they have been in a good 7 months. Usually they are ok orienteering or at least warm up as I go but they certainly didn't today and were painful for the entire race. Not good.
However I did enjoy the map and the assembly area was in a great spot- Beautiful afternoon.

Orienteering race (Street-O) 48:00 [4]
shoes: Asics DS Racer

First Street-O for the year. First race in a new Urban Night Nav Series. It was lots of fun. I chose to do the Medium which was advertised as being 4-5km but I think I ended up running over 7km due to the convoluted route I chose and the curvy streets. I felt strong and the shins didn't bother me too much. I tried out my new Ay Ups which were a 21st birthday present in January. So I have been waiting for a while to test them out. Took a few controls to get it conformable but after that it was great. The straps still need a bit of tweaking though- I now have a sore spot on my head where the lights were sitting.. will have to test it out again soon :D.
Collected my new Garmin 610 too! So keen to use it in Newcastle this weekend. Thanks to WildfireSports for the speedy delivery and not breaking my bank with the $$. :)
