7 AM

walk dog 50:27 [1] 2.56 mi (19:42 / mi)
shoes: Defyance 3 #1 (bike)

J decided to go south on Mile square. He refused to turn on the shorter route (probst). Then he suddenly lay down. Then turned around and went home. I occurred to him that the weather would probably get bad.
12 PM

Orienteering 44:11 [3] 3.12 mi (14:10 / mi)
spiked:5/11c shoes: Merrill Barefoot Trail

TERRIBLE
Rusty - first meet of the season.
Home course - cocky. Should have stayed on paths. Of course, most of the loss was in the section of the park where I just don't have a good mental image of.
--
Bad planning (ok, lack of any planning) to get from point A to B. And over, and over and over again. When I put down 5 spikes, it means I had 6 really bad controls. -- confirmed by the splits - 5 reds with lost time, for a total of 10:38 of 44:12. Yowza.
--
Don't try to 'cut across' the vine-y stuff. Best part was that I was not paying attention to my compass, so when I hit a path, it was a N-S one, and not the E-W that I was aiming for. So then I started running full tilt - in the absolute wrong direction. ... Duh.
--
Raining, muddy.
--
I never have shoelaces coming untied, but I had to tie them up (triple-tie) three separate times, but those darn grabber-vines somehow manage to pull pull pull until they are undone. I could not believe it.
--
By the time I was to run down Corderoy, I had no energy in the legs. That's where I could have made good time.

Orienteering 1:30:04 [3] 5.62 mi (16:02 / mi)
spiked:8/20c weight:161.8lbs shoes: Merrill Barefoot Trail

Glasses fogged up. And I had nothing to wipe them with - my shirt just put wet bug spray all over them. Luckily, my running shorts were able to clear them off somewhat. I almost took a DNF before that, as I could not see anything. I need new glass to run in. I attribute some of my problems to an inability to see the map clearly.

Biggest error was not doubling back after getting #7 - I kept going north across the whole west side, where there were no controls to be had.

7 AM

walk dog 1:34:40 [1] 4.91 mi (19:18 / mi)
slept:6.0 shoes: Merrell Chameleon 4 #5

Got out before it was too hot, but it started getting muggy at the end. J had a few lie-downs over the last mile.

J really wanted to go to the west side - it seems to be his favorite area in MPP. However, it had been a while since we had done the east side, so I insisted. The path was pretty beat up from one of the storms over the last two weeks. There were also a couple trees down across some of the wider paths.

I had put on bug spray, but 1/2 mile in, I had to get out another wipe to put more on my neck, and put some on J's neck, head and ears. That did the trick of chasing the FDF's away.
2 PM

Run (no dog) 26:55 [3] 3.2 mi (8:25 / mi)
weight:163.8lbs shoes: Nimbus 15

Light run - O meet tomorrow.
84F (mad dogs and Englishmen...)

Snail trail. Might add this in Google Mapsmaker.

Probably still 3 lbs high. I do like my chocolate.

walk dog 15:00 [1] 0.78 mi (19:14 / mi)
weight:167.4lbs shoes: Merrell Chameleon 4 #5

Morning walk - usually it is quick, but this time there was no action, even with doing a full loop. I think I've been snookered.

Weight headed upwards again.

Run (no dog) 30:19 [3] 4.07 mi (7:27 / mi)
shoes: Asics Nimbus 12 (old work)

Needed to get something in today. Running is a nice and efficient workout - and it takes advantage of a nice day.

4 mile canal run & overshot end a bit

Speed work intervals 2:00 [4] 0.35 mi (5:43 / mi)
shoes: Asics Nimbus 12 (old work)

6 striders in parking lot

Felt good; nothing out of kilter.

walk dog 25:00 [1] 1.2 mi (20:50 / mi)
shoes: Defyance 3 #1 (bike)

Note

-----------
TMI - 50 years old. Have signed up for a colonoscopy. The 16 hours before the procedure sounds dreadful.

And eating no vegetables for 4 days before that? No oatmeal? aaargh.
Sounds like it's bacon and eggs time. What happens if I start loving that diet?

Abs related 7:00 [4]
shoes: Asics Nimbus 12 (old work)

In addition to the abs in the 'iron core' workout.

Lifting 38:00 intensity: (4:00 @0) + (11:00 @1) + (11:00 @4) + (12:00 @5)
shoes: Asics Nimbus 12 (old work)

3x through 11 exercises 40s on, 40s off "Iron Workout" from my book., then 1 set of pull-down bars.

walk dog 17:00 [1] 0.8 mi (21:15 / mi)
shoes: Defyance 3 #1 (bike)

6 AM

Run (no dog) 26:44 [3] 3.67 mi (7:17 / mi)
slept:6.0 weight:167.2lbs shoes: Asics Nimbus 14-2 (walk)

Cooler. Surprised I woke up for a while last night, but when I went back to sleep, I slept pretty hard. Tried to think about my form, but I kept mentally drifting. Arms not feeling strong - not surprised, as I've done less weights over last month.

walk dog 4:00 [1] 0.15 mi (26:43 / mi)
weight:167.2lbs shoes: Defyance 3 #1 (bike)

ooh, sneaky weight. (I snacked constantly starting at about 1:30 pm)
Bad sleep night - woke at 1:30 from humidity, and fan that was clicking.

Physical Therapy 30:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Nimbus 12 (old work)

Heavier weights day. Did bare minimum - no squats, jumps...

walk dog 45:00 [1] 2.42 mi (18:36 / mi)
shoes: Merrell Chameleon 4 #5

A bit cooler - so J headed straight for a longer walk. Still should have brought some water - J wanted to come home on East rather than Carriage. Cuts off .55 miles.

Tuesday Jul 8, 2014 #

walk dog 5:00 [1] 0.2 mi (24:59 / mi)
shoes: Nimbus 15 Bumblebee (work)

Lifting 55:00 intensity: (10:00 @1) + (40:00 @3) + (5:00 @5)
shoes: Asics Nimbus 12 (old work)

Pushed weight up by 5lbs on the overhead items.
---
Did the 'power' workout from the running book afterwards. (13 min)

Abs related 13:00 [4]
shoes: Asics Nimbus 12 (old work)

mixed it up a bit - added some ball swirls on frontals, leg to chest on sides, plus 7 min of normal.

walk dog 15:00 [1] 0.78 mi (19:14 / mi)
shoes: Merrell Chameleon 4 #5

post rain - ground soaked it right up. Some little froggies still around. J has not had any, um, ill effects, from getting to the yummy cat food --- we are supposed to get P onto a higher protien (wet) diet to watch the weight, but all she's doing is licking the sauce off.
-- Then J sneaks in later to somehow get his mouth onto the table to finish it off. He comes trotting out of the back room with a big smile, and cat-food breath.
5 AM

Run (no dog) 27:00 [3] 3.66 mi (7:23 / mi)
slept:7.0 weight:163.9lbs shoes: Nimbus 15 Bumblebee (work)

Humid (with some fog), but not too hot.
---
Upper shins tired (strange) - assume that it was from yesterday's rowing rather than the new shoes.
---
Lots of women out running this morning (some who I've seen before, some not). It was like I stumbled across a running camp.
---
Did double-take at home - we had a ceramic rabbit in our front garden. Today, a real rabbit was sitting in the exact same spot. .... Gee, I don't remember the rabbit being so realistic before!

12 PM

Rowing Machine 20:18 [3]

5000m. Been a while, but not as much arm/back fatigue as it could have been.
