Running long (AZ) 2:04:00 [2] 29.3 km (4:14 / km)
shoes: Asics GT2150 #5

Mondays are the new Sundays. Long post work run over Corstorphine Hill to Ardshiel Avenue then back down Ravelston Dykes and through the west end and the Meadows to Argyle Park Terrace and Argyle Place. Had a bit of a ponder as to whether to do the full route and eventually decided to man up and get on with it, so piled down mid meadow walk and down through New Town to Cannonmills and onto the railway line to Argyle Street in Newhaven. Good stuff.

Orienteering race (UKCup Final) 1:14:00 [4] 10.4 km (7:07 / km) +400m 5:58 / km
shoes: VJ Integrators

Better to have tried and failed, than not to have tried at all.
The situation was that, with Matt out the country, I needed to win the final mass start race to deny him his first UK Cup title.
As a mass start race today's race wasn't great but as a tough, physical and often technical orienteering challenge it was pretty good - a bit better than I was expecting and a good reminder of what real orienteering is like before the training for next year starts. Credit to Rich for denying my my first forest UK Cup victory and what would have been an ill-deserved UK Cup overall title. Credit also to Craney for impressive consistency this season and a probably unique double this weekend - Aussie Long distance champion and UK Cup winner in the same weekend!

Running (AZ) 55:00 [3] 12.7 km (4:20 / km)
shoes: Asics GT2150 #5

A wee evening jaunt to top the miles up and shake the journey out my legs. Quite an efficient route via the Arboretums (3) then back up to the eye pavilion for Archibald Place, over the Meadows to Arden Street and then detoured via the Ardmillans (3) for an efficient 8 in 8 miles.
I once spent a night in Arden Street, comatose on the sofa after a party in Oleg's/Mhairi's/Stefan's/Ross's flat (any other o'ers ever live there?). Good times.

Shake-out jog along to the conveniently close Appin Lane, Place, Street and Terrace by Slateford Station.

Running race (ED XC Relay) 11:44 [5] 3.85 km (3:03 / km) +60m 2:50 / km

This is why I do high mileage training. Awesome feeling today off of no specific training.
Fastest leg time. Boom.

Running warm up/down 6:00 [1] 1.0 km (6:00 / km)

A real city centre run in the sun - Work to Stockbridge Ann Street then over to Holyrood for Ann Terrace - site of the penultimate control of this years city race. Then back up London Road for the very exotic Antigua Place and back through town to the office again.

Running (AZ) 30:00 [3] 7.0 km (4:17 / km)
shoes: Asics GT2150 #5

Still feeling a bit odd. Planned to do some tempo before work, then put that back to lunchtime, then couldn't decide whether to do it on the canal or the treadmill - canal very windy, treadmill very dull. Eventually set out for the canal via Angle Park Terrace but the wind was ridiculous so turned back to the treadmill. Banged out 20 minutes at 6 min/miles before I succumbed to boredom. How did I manage to do 100 minute treadmill runs last winter?
6 PM

Running (TT/AZ) 2:00:00 [3] 25.1 km (4:47 / km)
shoes: Asics GT2150 #5

A real mixed bag of a run. Easy warm up from work to DVC adn then back to Roseburn. Then Trotter Training session on the old railway line, intervals between bridges. Pushing well with Ray at 10km pace, pretty solid fartlek session. The intervals finished conveniently close to Annandale Street & Annandale St. Lane and from there it seemed rude not to head down to Newhaven to visit Annfield & Annfield Street. Quenched my thirst with some £2.50 pints in the Cumberland Bar then jogged back home. A top night out on the town.

Running (AZ) 48:00 [2] 10.8 km (4:27 / km)
shoes: Asics GT2150 #5

Legs felt really good on the way to Andrew Woods Court, just off the waterfront at Newhaven. Then I turned back, uphill, into the wind and the pace slowed.
7 PM

Note

Planned long tempo but didn't feel quite right all day - really hungry and lethargic. Night off instead.

Anchor Close, former home of the printing press where the first edition of Encylopedia Brittanica was printed. Excellent trivia.

Also Anchorfield, Anderson Road and Andersons Close which were less interesting, apart from seeing a rat in the latter.
