Orienteering race (Hunter Valley Champs) 57:06 [4]**** 4.3 km (13:17 / km)
spiked:12/14c shoes: Asics Gel
distance covered: 5.11km
I had a good run today didn?t really make many mistakes.

1. Spent about 3.5 minutes marking my map but to number 1 I just ran along the track till I could see the creek and ducked in.

2. Ran straight up the spur until I hit the rocks then followed the rocks to the control.

3. Went over the top of the spur but then went down in slightly wrong direction and hit the creek 400m from the control (oops). I then simply followed the creek to the control.

4. Went straight uphill to the spur, which had a track on it. I spent 20 seconds there making sure I was in the right spot then ran straight into the control.

5. Jumped up onto the spur then followed it down to the main creek then when I saw I couldn?t run in the creek (water) I ran along the side which was probably faster then the creek anyway I hit the appropriate bend the found the clearing into the creek and what do u know there was a control there.

6. A relatively easy control I simply jumped (key word jumped) down into the creek and followed it along.

7. A fairly long control ran up hill onto the track on the spur and ran along it when I felt the time was right I left the track and ran down to near the creek followed it along counting my gullies to find the control.

8. Ran to the top of the spur I decided just to go through the green as I had gravity on my side it was ok. Then I crossed the creek onto the track followed it to the corner (attackpoint) and ran to the control using aim off technic to the right.

9. Kinda half contoured half ran up the hill out of this one came to the track near the embankment down to the main creek crossed it and followed it to the creek with the control in it to find the control. I stoped to have a drink.

10. Went up the creek to the top of the spur then half contour half dropped to the track hitting it at the creek went up the hill on the track and down the other side cut through the bush till I thought I was the same height as the clearing then contoured to the control.

11. Ran along the creek to the track up the track through the fence down the other side and when I was near the creek ran in across a fairly main watercourse and into my control.

12. Followed the main creek 1, 2 and 3 watercourses and theres my control.

13. Well my only real mistake of the day came at the 2nd last mark. A bit careless but ay. Ran on a rough baring hit the rocky ground above the control ran down straight past it, hit the main creek turned around came back and got it. It was slightly frustrating but it dint want it to get to my head as there was one more control left.

14. Ran up a bit before contouring around to the track the seeing streamers going in the rough direction of my control followed them into my control punched it and off to the finish.

I got heaps bored and decided to write what it did

Really happy wtih this run a couple mistakes but everyone did. Only 15 minutes behind the leaders so im happy.

Had a good race against Rockman (who started 2 min in front) caught him going to 2 but he retook the lead at 3 then we swaped lead several times before I ran away from him going to 10.

Also Olle was with me from 7 to 11 I got away from him at 9 but stuffed up exit direction out of that control so he ran past me going to 11.

I rember going to 11 seeing olle 20 meters in front and AlexM, MalcomR and a couple other people roaring down the track behind me. It sounded like a hurd of bulls or something.
