Friday Feb 29

strength 20:00 [5]

Thursday Feb 28

running (treadmill) 29:00 **** 3.56 mi (8:09 / mi)
6c weight:165lbs shoes: Mizuno WR VI 07
Over at Hemenway. 1.5 incline, 6x30sec strides at the end. Took along the Rachel Elder map from O Today.
stretching warm up/down 10:00 [0]
strength 5:00 [5]
Some core stuff.

Wednesday Feb 27

running long 1:03:00 7.8 mi (8:04 / mi)
shoes: Mizuno WR VI 07
Ran down to the Harvard bridge and back from Lyman. 6x30sec strides along the river.
stretching warm up/down 10:00 [0]

Tuesday Feb 26

running (treadmill) 27:30 **** 3.5 mi (7:51 / mi)
shoes: Mizuno WR VI 07
Raining pretty hard outside, so I went over to Hemenway. 3 miles at 1.5 incline followed by 6x30sec strides. Took along a map from O Today (from Spain I think?) with a course I drew on it. Not the most interesting thing ever. I don't think I've ever seen a map with the "rough open with scattered trees" symbol actually printed as yellow dots.

Felt like I was working hard, but had no trouble breathing and no stomach problems despite having eaten basically nothing since lunch (run was at 10pm).
stretching warm up/down 5:00 [0]
strength 5:00 [5]
Some core afterwards.

Monday Feb 25

Note
Well, now that my major goal for the year (WUOC) is out of my hands, I'll have to think about what to do next. Train for Tiomila, I guess. Rather unfortunate to have gotten sick at the last minute. Still can't believe I skipped that control.

Sunday Feb 24

Orienteering race 57:39 [4] ** 7 km (8:14 / km) +250m 6:59 / km
spiked:13/14c shoes: Nike Terra Ridge 07
Had 1 mistake on #8, and apparently a slightly unfavorable route choice on #7. Basically I just don't run fast enough for this place. Again, drank at every water control.

Saturday Feb 23

Event: Western States + Intercollegiate Championships

Orienteering warm up/down 25:00 [2] ** 2.5 mi (10:00 / mi)
spiked:3/4c shoes: Nike Terra Ridge 07
I decided to go out on the warm-up map before the morning race. Probably a mistake as the terrain is dead easy and I could have used my half-hour of energy on the course.
Orienteering race 1:11:00 [3] ** 7.8 km (9:06 / km) +250m 7:51 / km
spiked:11/14c shoes: Nike Terra Ridge 07
Had absolutely no energy for this. I was gasping for breath the whole way. Had a small mistake on #1, then I evidently neglected to go to #4, which explains why #5 seemed so wrong. Probably would have been around 1:07 without that; too slow in any case. According to WinSplits the only control I lost time on was #10, which I spiked. I guess walking up a hill doesn't work wonders for your time. First time I've drunk at 3 water controls and taken 2 gus in a race this short.
Orienteering race (sprint) 21:02 [5] ** 2.9 km (7:15 / km)
spiked:12/14c shoes: Nike Terra Ridge 07
Went out too fast and blew #2 and #3, which was ~2:15, I guess. Again, really tired.

Sprint - Splits

Friday Feb 22

Orienteering 34:30 [2] *** 4 km (8:38 / km)
shoes: Nike Terra Ridge 07
Compass training at Arthur Pack Park. Went pretty well. I felt tired, but more or less well again.
Orienteering (trail-o) 1:00:00 [0] ***
Trail-o at Arthur Pack Park. I won, with 11 seconds on the timed controls. I guess that gives me a pretty good trail-o ranking.

Thursday Feb 21

running 34:28 [2] 3.68 mi (9:21 / mi)
(sick) shoes: Mizuno WR VI 07

Tuesday Feb 12

running 37:30 4.6 mi (8:09 / mi)
shoes: Mizuno WR VI 07
Thought it might be a good idea to do some EQ training, so I went over to the indoor track planning to do something like 8x400m. Of course, I woke up too late to eat breakfast this morning so I ate lunch at 12pm and had a couple of small apples between then and 5:30. Didn't work out too well. Stomach cramped up after the 3rd 400m, so I just jogged around for a while, did 3x200m and went home. Right hip feeling weird again.

Monday Feb 11

cycling (stationary recumbent) 29:15 [2]
shoes: Mizuno WR VI 07
Forgot that the gym is ridiculous at 7pm, so I ended up doing a short workout on a stationary bike.

Saturday Feb 9

running (road) 38:28 [2] 4.22 mi (9:07 / mi)
shoes: Mizuno WR VI 07
Run with Lori by the river.

Thursday Feb 7

running long (road) 1:00:21 [3] * 8.1 mi (7:27 / mi)
spiked:12/14c shoes: Mizuno WR VI 07
Ross's Cambridge street-o starting from my place. Turns out Dean used to live in my apartment. Weird. Anyway, pretty good run. Ross kept making mistakes so I was ahead of him heading into Harvard, and I stayed ahead, although I sort-of skipped #4 (actually, it looked like an inaccessible location. I assumed it was since Ross clearly hadn't field checked anything, so I just went on.)

Tuesday Feb 5

running (treadmill) 34:30 ***** 4.17 mi (8:15 / mi)
11c shoes: Mizuno WR VI 07
Treadmill at Hemenway since it was late. Took along a map with Rachel Elder's route from some race in Spain(?). Felt pretty weak. Something felt weird in my right hip.
stretching warm up/down 5:00 [0]

Sunday Feb 3

running long (road) 58:55 [2] 6.83 mi (8:38 / mi)
slept:9.5 shoes: Mizuno WR VI 07
Was planning to do a longer run at the Fells but didn't have time. Felt kind of sick yesterday and even though I'm feeling healthy now I'm tired, presumably as a result. I felt pretty lethargic during the run.

Friday Feb 1

swimming/DWR 30:00 [3] 1 km (30:00 / km)
Once again I am reminded of my miserable ability in the pool. Was actually in the water for ~55 minutes, but I can't really swim continuously in a meaningful way for more than a few minutes, so I took some rest after every few laps. Did a good amount of freestyle and breast, plus some kickboarding. My (brand new) goggles broke. How disappointing.
