Saturday Apr 29

Event: US Short and Long Championships

soccer (turf) 45:00 [2]
(injured) shoes: adidas predator mania TF
Sprained my right ankle.

Friday Apr 28

running warm up/down (track) 20:00 [2] 2.26 mi (8:51 / mi)
slept:6.0 shoes: asics gel-landreth II
running tempo (track) 20:37 [4] 4.8 km (4:18 / km)
shoes: asics gel-landreth II
3x(1600m+1min rest) on the indoor track (it was kind of windy outside). Felt much better than last week's 3x1mi session.

time/ahr/end hr

653/159/165
648/162/167
rollerblading 20:00 [2]
Harvard and back.
soccer (grass) 1:00:00 [2]
shoes: diadora tornates
A recent Bexley grad is in town for the weekend so we played some pick-up on the grass. I probably took myself off the injury list a bit too fast, since my right arch hurt (more than I can remember it hurting before) within minutes of changing into cleats. I stretched it out and a minute or two later, something just released and it was fine. Not the first time that's happened, either.

Thursday Apr 27

running (road) 31:40 [2] 3.71 mi (8:31 / mi)
slept:7.0 (sick) shoes: asics gel-landreth II
Across the Harvard bridge to Marlborough, down Marlborough to the public gardens, then over to beacon hill, back across Longfellow, and home.

I've had kind of a dry throat/sinus and general fatigue for the past couple of days, so I didn't do the 3x1mi intervals that were on the schedule. Hopefully I'll be feeling fine tomorrow and I'll just bump the schedule back by a day.

Wednesday Apr 26

rollerblading 20:00 [2]
slept:11.0 (sick) (rest day)
Harvard and back.

Tuesday Apr 25

running long (road) 59:04 [2] 7.17 mi (8:14 / mi)
slept:8.0 shoes: asics gel-landreth II
Footbridge-Longfellow loop.

Monday Apr 24

elliptical 30:00 [2] 3.19 mi (9:24 / mi)
slept:8.0 shoes: asics gel-landreth II
376 cal. Mix of incline/resistance. Was going to run long today, but I walked up to Harvard square yesterday in some bad shoes, so I didn't want to reinjure my arches. If my feet are feeling good tomorrow I'll do the long run then.

Sunday Apr 23

running (road) 29:24 [2] 3.5 mi (8:23 / mi)
slept:9.0 shoes: asics gel-landreth II
Mass ave. - Longfellow - Beacon hill, back along beacon st. to Mass ave.

Saturday Apr 22

running warm up/down 20:00 [2] 2.35 mi (8:30 / mi)
slept:11.0 shoes: asics gel-landreth II
running tempo (indoor track) 25:34 [3] 6 km (4:16 / km)
shoes: asics gel-landreth II
6x1000m with 1min rest after each. Target time 4:15. There was a track meet on outside, so I used the indoor track. Didn't feel nearly as exhausted as after thursday's workout.

time/ahr:
414/147
416/155
417/158
416/157
417/160
414/162
Note
Due to a sudden change in my citizenship status, I may be going to WUOC after all. With that in mind, I decided to start incorporating some of the workouts from the "red" plan in Daniels.

Friday Apr 21

rollerblading 20:00 [2]
slept:6.5
To/from Harvard.
running (road) 34:00 [2] 4.07 mi (8:20 / mi)
ahr:147 max:156 shoes: asics gel-landreth II
River St. loop. Quite windy. Didn't have much to eat before class this morning, so I had a piece of toast, some oatmeal and gatorade about half an hour before this, but it didn't provide the necessary energy. Legs felt nice and loose, but I felt really sluggish in general. Probably the low sleep doesn't help, and the track workout yesterday may have left me a little tired.

Thursday Apr 20

running warm up/down (track) 20:00 [2] 2.22 mi (9:00 / mi)
slept:9.0 shoes: asics gel-landreth II
running (track) 20:43 [4] 3.0 mi (6:53 / mi)
shoes: asics gel-landreth II
3x1mi at T-pace with 1min rest inbetween. Target pace for the miles was 651. Was struggling by the end of the last one. I've never done a timed T-pace run before, and I was surprised by how not-fast it seemed. I guess I thought "comfortably hard" would be harder than that.

time/ahr
654/169
651/170

Wednesday Apr 19

rollerblading 20:00 [2]
slept:6.0

shoes: asics gel-landreth II
Mass Ave. - Science Museum, counterclockwise, at dusk.
running 2:00 [4] 0.6 km (3:20 / km)
shoes: asics gel-landreth II
6x~100m strides afterwards. Time/dist an estimate.

Monday Apr 17

running long (road) 58:39 [2] 7.47 mi (7:51 / mi)
ahr:152 max:160 slept:8.5 shoes: asics gel-landreth II
Western - Science Museum loop in the morning (8:20am). Really nice weather. 50-something and overcast, a little windy. Legs sore from soccer on Saturday.
soccer (indoor) 45:00 [2]
shoes: sambas
Yeah so I wasn't very good with my intention to not play soccer, but my groin is feeling pretty good, actually, so I guess no harm done. Took it easy anyway; we played more of a passing game.

Sunday Apr 16

running (road) 21:00 [3] 2.72 mi (7:43 / mi)
slept:8.0 shoes: asics gel-landreth II
BU loop with Ayan who's in town for the marathon.

Saturday Apr 15

running warm up/down (road) 22:32 [2] 2.72 mi (8:17 / mi)
slept:8.0 shoes: asics gel-landreth II
BU loop to warm up for soccer. Threw in some strides at the end (4x20sec, with ~1min slow jogging in between).
soccer (turf) 1:30:00 [3]
shoes: diadora tornates
Yeah, these definitely aren't turf shoes. Hopefully I didn't screw up my arch. Groin is a bit sore afterwards, so I guess I'll stay off the soccer for another while.

Friday Apr 14

rollerblading 20:00 [2]
Harvard and back.
running warm up/down (track) 20:00 [2] 2.0 mi (10:00 / mi)
shoes: asics gel-landreth II
running intervals (track) 4:00 [5] 0.75 mi (5:20 / mi)
shoes: asics gel-landreth II
3x400m. Was planning to do 6 but I got a cramp after the 3rd one.

rollerblading 15:00 [2]
To/from Harvard, with stops at CVS and Shaws on the way back.
running long (road) 1:02:16 [2] 7.67 mi (8:07 / mi)
ahr:155 max:171 slept:8.0 shoes: asics gel-landreth II
Ran across Longfellow to Beacon Hill, and ran around (by which I mean up and down, via various routes) the hill 6 times, then back to Mass Ave. via Beacon. Felt pretty good when I got back so I decided to run along the river to the BU bridge and back.

Tuesday Apr 11

running (road) 38:31 [2] 4.78 mi (8:02 / mi)
ahr:155 max:171 slept:7.5 shoes: asics gel-landreth II
BU-Longfellow loop. Legs are tired.

Orienteering race 1:10:02 [4] *** 8.73 km (8:01 / km) +315m 6:48 / km
spiked:18/20c slept:8.5 shoes: asics GT-2090
Day 2 of the NEOC meet. Had a great run. Woods were quite open, I had a couple small errors, maybe 2-3 minutes, if that. Course wasn't very technically challenging. I think the map could be "complex" but the course wasn't more than "advanced o'".

Red 2 - Splits

Saturday Apr 8

Event: NEOC Spring Rock Festival and Intercollegiates

Orienteering race (short) 46:58 [4] *** 4.7 km (10:00 / km) +185m 8:21 / km
ahr:175 max:199 spiked:13/17c slept:7.5 shoes: asics GT-2090
NEOC Wells State Park, Red day 1. Had a nice run. In the past, I've usually had enough mistakes that I feel if I were to train real hard physically and not make mistakes, I could maybe be comparable to Leif or John. Today, I've come to the realization that that is either not possible or will involve a whole heck of a lot more training than I previously had in mind. I'm just not that fast. I made no more than 3 minutes of mistakes.

Before the run, right arch felt like it would give out, but it didn't. Felt so-so afterwards.
C • faster 1
Orienteering race (sprint) 16:11 [5] *** 2.16 km (7:30 / km) +90m 6:12 / km
spiked:8/9c shoes: asics GT-2090
NEOC sprint relay. Had another nice run. Was first to the first control (woo-hoo!) then Kenny passed me on the way to #2, and Greg passed me on the hill to #3. The last time I saw Greg was on the way to #5 when I caught a glimpse of his uniform. After that I was fine, but tired from the climb. Was unable to shake one of the cadets who tagged along for the whole course. Fortunately I had enough left at the end to beat him in the chute.

Arch felt fine during the race, but when I got out of the car at MIT and tried walking it didn't feel so good. Hopefully it'll be ok tomorrow.

Red Day 1 - Splits

Sprint C - Splits

Friday Apr 7

rollerblading 20:00 [2]
slept:7.5
Harvard and back.

Thursday Apr 6

running (road) 30:38 [2] 3.78 mi (8:06 / mi)
slept:3.0 shoes: asics gel-landreth II
Museum loop. Arches have been feeling not-so-good all week, I suspect due to lack of sleep (it's seemed fairly correlated in the past, too). They loosened up after 15 minutes or so. Legs felt great otherwise, mentally tired, though.

Saturday Apr 1

Orienteering (night-o) 40:00 [2] *** 3 km (13:20 / km) +50m 12:18 / km
spiked:12/13c shoes: asics GT-2090
BOK night-o at Lake Johnson. Got confused on an easy control.
