Wednesday Aug 31

running warm up/down (road) 25:01 [3] * 3.18 mi (7:51 / mi)
slept:9.0 shoes: asics gel-landreth II
To Regis College from Cedarwood bus stop.
Orienteering race (sprint) 22:52 [5] *** 3.15 km (7:16 / km) +50m 6:44 / km
spiked:11/14c shoes: VJ pro I
NEOC sprint at regis college. Finished 25 seconds behind Ross. Unfortunately, it seems I skipped the dogleg to #7 and went straight from 6 to 8. Bummer. Otherwise, it went pretty well. Just a couple of confusions. Good speed.

Sprint - Splits

Tuesday Aug 30

running (road) 33:13 [3] 4.07 mi (8:09 / mi)
slept:9.0 shoes: asics gel-landreth II
River st. loop.

Monday Aug 29

swimming/DWR 48:00 [2] 0.6 km (1:20:00 / km)
slept:10.0
DWR.

Thursday Aug 25

Orienteering warm up/down 15:00 [3] *** 2 km (7:30 / km) +50m 6:40 / km
spiked:3/3c slept:7.5 shoes: VJ pro I
Warm-up lap plus some jogging during recovery.
running intervals (terrain) 15:20 [5] *** 2 km (7:40 / km) +120m 5:54 / km
shoes: VJ pro I
3 hill/interval bouts at umstead (reedy creek). Distance is roughly o-dist, not actual dist. Arches were tingling so I stopped early (was planning to do one more).

Saturday I apparently ran through a tick breeding ground, as I had 30 or so baby ticks on me afterwards. Didn't pick up many sunday or tuesday, but today I must've run through another hatchery, and picked off as many again. I think, due to the tick situation, I'll stick to the streets for the rest of the week.

Tuesday Aug 23

Orienteering 58:45 [3] *** 6 km (9:48 / km) +165m 8:36 / km
spiked:18/20c slept:7.5 weight:162lbs shoes: VJ pro I
Umstead north. Weather was much nicer today. Ankles a bit sore again.

Sunday Aug 21

Orienteering 50:00 [3] *** 4.5 km (11:07 / km) +100m 10:00 / km
spiked:7/8c slept:8.5 shoes: VJ pro I
Umstead south. Did about half of the planned course before I ran out of time. Much greener area than yesterday, more spiders, same heat. Ankles are kind of sore in the same way as when I went to the NEOC Breakheart event in the spring. Basically it hurts on the outside of my foot just below the ankle when I roll my foot inwards. Doesn't hurt at all otherwise.

Saturday Aug 20

running (terrain) 58:32 [3] * 7.1 km (8:15 / km) +150m 7:27 / km
rhr:50 slept:10.5 weight:162lbs shoes: VJ pro I
Terrain run at umstead north. We forgot the maps at the house so I just ran along the park border with a park map. Woods were really nice, very little green. Very hot (heat index was supposed to be 115F today).

Thursday Aug 18

running (road) 30:36 [2] 3.52 mi (8:41 / mi)
slept:8.5 shoes: asics gel-landreth II
Longfellow to Beacon hill and back along beacon. Felt kind of fast, but that was fine. Felt like going less than 4 miles for a change.

Wednesday Aug 17

running warm up/down (track) 16:30 [2] 2.0 mi (8:15 / mi)
slept:8.5 shoes: asics gel-landreth II
1mile + 4x100 strides warm-up, 4x100 strides + 800 cool-down.
running intervals (track) 19:20 [5] 3.0 mi (6:26 / mi)
shoes: asics gel-landreth II
6x(800m at I pace + 400m easy + 1min walk). Didn't have to push all that hard until the last couple.

Tuesday Aug 16

running (road) 43:33 [2] **** 4.78 mi (9:07 / mi)
slept:8.5 shoes: asics gel-landreth II
BU - Longfellow with 1:5 pawtuckaway map. Good concentration. Tried to keep up a higher cadence (have been kind of lazy about it past few runs).

Sunday Aug 14

running long (road) 1:21:22 [2] *** 9.55 mi (8:31 / mi)
slept:9.0 shoes: asics gel-landreth II
Eliot - Science museum loop, in the rain. Really nice running conditions, only the electrical storm passed over me around the time I was coming back past the BU bridge, which was a bit of a distraction from map reading, and a bit of an incentive to get moving. It abated after I made my way through the throngs celebrating India day at the half-shell (who were all brilliantly carrying umbrellas). I felt a twinge of pain in my right arch after passing under Longfellow on the home stretch, so I decided to stop and walk the rest of the way. Hamstrings were quite exhausted by the time I stopped, but otherwise I felt great. Map was a copy of blue day 1 from the team fundraiser in January, which I read for about 35 minutes, then a hogencamp map which I read for 10 minutes or so.

Saturday Aug 13

running (road) 37:55 [3] 4.17 mi (9:05 / mi)
slept:8.0 shoes: asics gel-landreth II
Ran to Beacon Hill via Longfellow, then around boston common, and back along Boylston/Commonweath to Mass Ave. 93F when I got back at 5. I usually rate intensity by speed, but today it was heavily influenced by how hot it felt. Feet felt fine, hamstring wasn't nearly so tired as on the previous couple of runs.

Thursday Aug 11

running (road) 41:13 [2] **** 4.78 mi (8:36 / mi)
slept:9.0 shoes: asics gel-landreth II
BU-Longfellow loop. The weather today at 6 was much more favorable than the past couple of runs (which took place an hour or two earlier) which made a huge difference to how I felt physically and my concentration for the map. Generally felt good, though I have some muscle soreness in my left hamstring as if I was climbing a lot. Feels better after stretching, but definitely still there. Feet are pretty good, no pain. Rest day tomorrow and we'll see how things are Saturday before deciding how long to go on Sunday.

Wednesday Aug 10

running (road) 35:44 [3] 4.07 mi (8:46 / mi)
slept:8.0 shoes: asics gel-landreth II
River St. - Mass Ave. loop. Started a little before 5, while it was still a little warm and pretty humid. Felt tired the whole way, hamstrings were quite tired at the end. Feet still not 100%, but no pain, and the shoes are good.

Tuesday Aug 9

running (road) 50:58 [2] **** 5.73 mi (8:54 / mi)
slept:9.0 shoes: asics gel-landreth II
BU-Science Museum loop at 4pm. Warm, humid, and windy (82F, 60%, 14mph when I got back at 5). Took along a hogencamp map but didn't have much concentration for it. Legs were really tired by the end, particularly hamstrings. Feet felt ok, no pain. New shoes feel pretty good.

Monday Aug 8

strength 20:00 [1]
quads, calves, hamstrings, core.

Sunday Aug 7

running (road) 48:45 [2] 5.0 mi (9:44 / mi)
slept:9.0 shoes: asics GT-2090
Bexley-Simmons-BU-Longfellow-Bexley with Lori. The arch on my right foot still feels a little tight and both feet tingle a little bit in the arch area, but no pain.

Exchanged the Mizunos yesterday for a pair of Asics Gel-Landreths, which are the same as the shoes I've been wearing, only they don't have the stiff foam post on the inner side of the shoe. I'll try them out tuesday.

Friday Aug 5

swimming/DWR 35:00 [2]
slept:9.5 weight:164lbs
26' DWR followed by 9' easy swimming.

Thursday Aug 4

soccer (turf) 30:00 [4]
slept:8.0 shoes: adidas predator mania TF
Played in the second half of a grad club soccer game. The arch on my right foot is a bit tight, but doesn't exactly hurt.

Wednesday Aug 3

running (road) 36:00 [2] *** 4.07 mi (8:51 / mi)
slept:8.0 (injured) shoes: Mizuno Wave Rider 8
Morning run. Mass Ave. - River St. loop, with the sprint map from the VOC team fundraiser for first 15 minutes. Arches felt fine until right at the end, then were a bit sore later on in the day.

Tuesday Aug 2

Note
(injured)
Wore these new shoes to work yesterday and my arches were hurting by the end of the day. Today my arches still hurt a bit from time to time, so I decided to give them a rest.
