| Ross's training at Hammond Pond. I had no energy, but spiked pretty much everything, which was cool. Totally dead by the end. I think poor hydration, heat, low sleep, etc. did me in. Maybe also not training for the last few weeks... | ||

| Was going to go pick up those streamers at Boojum, but by the time I woke up it was kind of late already, so I opted for a long run along the river instead. It was good to get in a long run before I head out to Colorado; something I haven't done much this year.
Jefferson-JFK-Science Museum-Eliot-JFK-Jefferson, in the evening. Felt pretty good.

| Tufts. Spent most of the day in lab meetings, after staying up until 2am to assess what I've been up to for the past 3 months. So, I took a nap when I got home and went out late again (~9:45, this time before dinner). Was thinking while I was running that the air is a little dryer at night, so it could be good conditioning for Colorado. ... Nah, it's just easier. | ||

| After feeling like crap the past few days I had the feeling I was on the up-and-up so I decided to take a short run over to Tufts. Unfortunately I was in the lab until nearly 8pm, so I decided to do this after dinner. Fortunately, that gave me time to get pumped by re-reading the ignorant accusations recently put forth about American sports culture (yeah, there are a lot of fat people in the US, but it has nothing to do with coaches or team sports). So by the time I got to Tufts I was feeling strong with a faster-than-usual pace, and I decided to run a mile on the track. Probably not a great idea, but what the heck. | ||

| Yeah, so being sick, eating dinner beforehand, and running a faster-than-usual warm-up is evidently not a PR formula, but it felt ok, and I don't think I'm any worse for it. | ||

| Ran over to, around, and back from Tufts, plus jogging 250m between strides. Felt pretty sluggish after my long day of t-shirt wearing. But seriously, I did feel sluggish. | ||
| running (track) 4:20 [5] 1.3 km (3:20 / km) | ||

| Did some strides on the Tufts track. 6x30sec + 2x200m. Pretty fast; felt good and strong. My hr was in the 160s, maxing out at about 170. I guess it was a cool evening. | ||

| 6x1200 threshold intervals with 1min rest inbetween. Target time was 5 minutes. Had a 1:10 Hogencamp with a course drawn out on it. I decided to try something new which was to run 1 leg per 400m, then go on to the next leg. This really didn't work. I thought about my route, but I really didn't practice checking off features. From a physical standpoint, I felt strong, and the workout seemed easy, which was surprising since I haven't done threshold work in a while.

| Full circuit at Hemenway. Finally saw the physio today who said I have a ligament sliding over something in my hip, which was causing a sort of popping. She didn't seem to think it was much to be concerned about, and told me to keep doing what I'm doing. | ||

| Ran over to the track for the CSU workout, but nobody was there. Also the track was closed for resurfacing. Maybe it was supposed to be at MIT this week? Anyway, hung around for a couple of minutes and ran back. | ||

| Ran the night-o course from Friday, picking up the controls. With near to full knowledge of the map, route choices, and control locations, I still lost a couple of seconds on #17 - just wasn't paying attention. I somehow forgot to hit the split button between the jog back from the track and this, so 17 is a guess but I'd say it's an upper limit. | ||
| stretching warm up/down 15:00 [0] | ||
| Before and after. Thought about going out again for a jog along the river, but I'd probably end up staying out another 20-25 minutes, and I think it's a psychological boon to feel good rather than tired at the end of an easy day. | ||

| Event: Skyline trail race | ||
| Note | ||
| Looks like I've got a 15 mile bike ride ending at 240ft before I even start running. Probably should get a 6:45am start (groan), and schlepp it a little faster than I typically ride. | ||

| Turns out climbing requires more or less the same muscles as biking (well, probably more) so my 70 minute "warm-up" kind of took the smack out of the uphills. On the upside (or downside, as it were) I can fall down a rocky trail as fast as anyone, so I probably made up a few minutes on the downhills. I was a little worried towards the end, since there's only so far reflexes will take you when your legs are giving out, but I didn't injure anything. Except that thing in my foot that was bothering me a few weeks back. It's a little sore now.
Thanks much to the Halls for giving me a lift home. That would have been a pretty painful cool-down.

| Ran over to the Harvard track from Jefferson, then ran a mile on the track, including 3 200s to get up to speed. They were slow (51, 47.7, 44.1) which was probably a bad sign. Then jogged 800m afterwards and ran back to Jefferson. | ||

| Mile time trial on the track. Terry suggested at the track workout last week that I should find a race to do today. I looked, and they were all further than I wanted to bike, or else longer than I wanted to run, or else in the evening. But I still wanted to see how fast I am, so I ran a time trial. I felt slow and was slow. It was also windy.

| To/from Boojum. Looks like it's about 12 miles round trip. Quite an enjoyable bike ride, actually; climbing up Fulton St. to Fulton Heights felt strangely like wandering around some of the small coastal communities in Maine or on the Elizabeth Islands. | ||
| Orienteering 1:30:00 [2] | ||
| Hanging streamers for the course at Boojum. Went out for about 15 minutes, during which time I only hung the first two controls, then I came back because I was expecting people to be there. Turned out the only people to show up were MC, Patty, and Nikolai. MC and Patty only did controls 1&2 anyway, so I could almost have not bothered hanging any more streamers. Nikolai did the first 9, and being as there were 18, I decided to leave them up in hopes someone else might be able to make use of them. Plus I wasn't quite up to the additional hour or so that it would have taken to take them down. Maybe I'll make it out sometime this week to run the course. | ||
