Pia and Mark set up a nice course at Hammond Pond. Got there at 7:20(?) so it was getting dark fast. Started out backwards, by accident, but realized after 3 controls and went back to do it forwards. Got to #17 before deciding it was getting too dark. About the same time, my hip started hurting a bit, but not too bad. Time is a complete guess.

Got up at 8 to finally fix my bike, then headed over to Danehy for a cup game with WTR against the team that has won the top league for the past 3 years. They were not as good as I would have thought, but we still lost 3-1. I don't think anyone had much, but I was certainly dragging the whole time. Same pain in my right leg is still bothering me; feels like a pinched nerve somewhere near the base of the spine or hip or something like that. Stretched out a lot, but it didn't help at all.

Game with the West Town Rockets vs. Kendall Wanderers B (Irish guys). Won 3-0, after a couple of early goals, one of them the result of the opposing goalie coming out of the box and handling the ball, which also sent him off the field with a red card. Scored the final goal in the last minute or so, when a defender was chasing the ball down towards the corner and saved it from going out. I scoped it up and put it in the net; basically a free goal.

Having some lower back issues, which is giving me shooting pains in my legs; probably need to do core stuff more regularly.

Signed up for the COCs today. I thought the NAOCs in Ontario were expensive, but apparently the standard for Canadian events is 175% the cost of US events. I certainly hope my high expectations are met.

Ran from Lyman down to JFK and then a science museum loop, clockwise, picking up Ian at the science museum, and dropping him off at River St. Hadn't eaten since lunch, and ran at ~6pm, which was somewhat problematic. Hamstrings were really tired by the end; left arch a bit tight in the beginning but loosed up by the end.

Realized that there was WTR practice today, so I went over at around 6:30, but unfortunately forgot to bring a second pair of socks. Ergo, I now have no skin on the balls of my feet. Nice.

"Black-jack workout". Back when I was in college, I had a friend who was training for the marines who started his day out each day by shuffling a deck of cards, then flipping them over one-by-one and doing the number of push-ups that each card is worth in black-jack. I'm not training for the marines but it seemed like a good idea for a workout, so I tried it with a set of core exercises. I guess it was somewhat good for motivation, but I think I'll stick to a less stochastic prescription.

Ran from Alewife to the CSU training at Menotomy Rocks, then jogged a loop of the park with Alexei afterwards.

CSU training at Menotomy Rocks by iamsinht. The course criss-crossed the map a bunch of times and I got a good workout going up the hill ... 4 times? Felt pretty good, even the hot, humid weather. Reminded me of pleasant childhood memories playing soccer in the North Carolina summer.

Time is a guess (watch still broken, oops).

Ordinarily I wouldn't log walking, but today I took the T down to Aquarium at 10am to go out to the Boston Harbor Islands with Ed, walked all over Georges and Spectacle, then took the ferry back, walked all over the North End trying to find Ed's favorite pizza place, then walked back from there to MIT to watch the fireworks, then walked back to Somerville from MIT. Net walking time ~10hrs.
