Note
This whole discussion about the championships restructuring has firmed my resolve to not rejoin USOF. The idea of changing the rules with the intention of undermining a particular event seems ludicrous to me. And somehow, waving the IOF banner around in defense of such a policy just comes across as a cheap trick and discredits the already disfunctional BOD as a policy making organization.

So, in lieu of being a USOF member, I'm going to stick with my COF membership for the time being. Still a CSU member, but in Canada I'm a falcon. Can't compete for US champs or a spot on the Team, but I don't seem to be getting there any time soon anyway, so what the hey.

We'll see how many relay champs go by before I relent.

Saturday Oct 25

Event: NEOC Heart and Troll Revival A-Meet

Orienteering race 20:00 [4] ***
spiked:3/5c (injured) shoes: Nike Terra Ridge 07
NEOC meet at Mt. Tom. Twisted my ankle right after #5. It's a little worse than at NAOC, I think. This will be the end of my season, so sometime soon I should think about what to do next. Probably going to take November pretty light on the running to give it a chance to heal. No O til March or April. In the interlude, I'll probably focus on building a real base instead of the faux-base I've tried to pass off in the past. But I intend to do one speed session each week. It's kind of boring otherwise, and I just get slow. Maybe I'll try to take road running seriously.

Thursday Oct 23

Orienteering (night-o) 29:29 [2] *** 3.2 km (9:13 / km)
spiked:10/12c
CSU night-o at Hammond Pond, by Ross.

Tuesday Oct 21

Note
(rest day)
Was planning to go to the CSU track workout (running section) but kind of needed a break after yesterday's marathon soccer session, plus I'm a bit behind on work...

Monday Oct 20

soccer (turf) 2:10:00
shoes: adidas predator mania TF
Went over to MIT for the CUA balldrivers game, which the other team failed to show for, so we scrimmaged for a while. Then I got picked up by the Alumni B team for their game, and then their C team needed players, too. Kind of tired by the end, hips are pretty sore afterwards.
cycling warm up/down 10:00 [2]
To MIT.

Sunday Oct 19

cycling 45:00
To/from Fells.

Saturday Oct 18

soccer (grass) 1:00:00
shoes: Nike 90 cleats
Game at Danehy with WTR. Lost 1-0 against the top team in the league. We played well in the second half.

Friday Oct 17

running warm up/down (treadmill) 8:00 [2] 0.98 mi (8:09 / mi)
shoes: Blue WR X 2008
strength 10:00 [5]
Core only.
stretching warm up/down 5:00 [0]

Thursday Oct 16

running warm up/down 25:15 [2] 4.8 km (5:16 / km)
shoes: Blue WR X 2008
running tempo 16:24 [3] 4 km (4:06 / km)
shoes: Blue WR X 2008
4x1000m threshold workout with Ross at the MIT track. Target pace for me was 4:06/km, which I stuck to pretty well. I'm going to be lazy and not pull all the 200m splits off my watch. Felt easy.

Wednesday Oct 15

soccer 35:00
shoes: adidas predator mania TF
IM soccer with the CUA balldrivers. Tied 0-0, scored 0, obviously. Had a few chances but I haven't touched a ball in a few months, so they kind of slipped away. Left knee feels kind of sore in the joint afterwards.

Monday Oct 13

running warm up/down (treadmill) 20:00 [2] 2.46 mi (8:07 / mi)
shoes: Blue WR X 2008
strength 15:00 [5]
shoes: Blue WR X 2008
Some upper (mostly back) plus core.

Sunday Oct 12

Event: Hollis O-Ringen

Saturday Oct 11

running 36:50 [3] * 4.5 mi (8:10 / mi)
9c slept:9.0 shoes: Mizuno WR VI 08
Over to Tufts for some conditioning drills. This includes there/back, plus 4x(150m strides + 250m jog). Took along a 1:10 Pawtuckaway map to do a little reading along the way. I decided to focus on the control circle, rather than the usual, haphazard imagine-everything-about-the-route "plan", so the first thing I did on each leg was to notice the feature the control was on, and the general shape of the circle, and only after doing that for a couple of looks at the map did I then think about route. Having something simple and concrete to focus on is good.
strength 5:00 [5]
Conditioning stuff on the grass field by the track. 2xlunges, 2xbuttkicks, 2xknee lifts, 2xpower skips. (~25s each). 1x(toe raises: 30 both, 20 left, 20 right).

Friday Oct 10

erg warm up/down 12:30 [3] 2.94 km (4:15 / km)
shoes: Mizuno WR VI 07
Actually I'm not in erging shape, so it's a bit more than a warm-up, but... whatever.
strength 20:00 [5]
Upper and core. The goal was to be sore tomorrow, which I think will definitely be the case.
stretching warm up/down 3:00 [0]

Thursday Oct 9

running race (track) 5:36 [5] 1.0 mi (5:36 / mi) vdot: 52.3
slept:9.0 shoes: Blue WR X 2008
The CSU track workout turned into a mile time trial since it was just myself and Ross who showed up, and I kind of wanted to do a time trial. I seem to have restarted my watch after it was over without recording the last split, but I finished in 5:36, which I was pretty happy about. Ross clocked in at 5:28. I'm sure we could go faster with pacing practice. The first lap was 86.6, then 84.9, 84.1 and ~80.
C • Great run! 6
running warm up/down 22:00 [2] 4.4 km (5:00 / km)
shoes: Blue WR X 2008

Saturday Oct 4

Event: Prospect Hill

Thursday Oct 2

cycling 40:00 [1]
