Thursday Jun 30

Orienteering race (sprint) 30:10 [5]**** 3 km (10:03 / km)
spiked:8/15c slept:6.5 shoes: VJ pro I
NEOC meet at Needham town forest. Made a lot of dumb mistakes. I'm fitter than I've been in a long time so I guess I need to slow down at critical points like, say, taking a bearing, instead of just running hard continuously.

Sprint - Splits

Wednesday Jun 29

running (road) 34:16 [2]**** 4.07 mi (8:25 / mi)
slept:9.0 shoes: asics GT-2090
Mass Ave. - River St. loop, in the morning (~8:40am). It was warmer and sunnier than past few runs, plus my legs were definitely still tired from last night. Took along another copy of Hogencamp, this time with a shorter course on it, so I finished the course in ~27 minutes. Once again, it seemed easier to read the map. I was also more focused than last night; my mind didn't drift at all.

Tuesday Jun 28

running (road) 40:00 [2]**** 4.62 mi (8:39 / mi)
slept:8.0 shoes: asics GT-2090
Mass Ave. to Longfellow and then up Beacon hill and back to Mass Ave., with a bit of extra looping around to add some time. Took along another copy of the Hogencamp map, but decided that either I drew an easier course or I'm getting better at reading it, so I gave it 4 stars for technical intensity. There was one leg that threw me, where the only route choice seemed to be straight through a swath of mountain laurel, and I really didn't do well on that leg. It's exactly the kind of leg I tend to get lost on in real woods, too - lots of green and not much to navigate off of. To top things off, I left the trail to plunge into the green without being absolutely sure of what I was doing, which Will has told me not to do countless times (although I was thinking about it very hard).

Sunday Jun 26

running long (road) 1:11:37 [2]***** 8.1 mi (8:51 / mi)
slept:9.0 shoes: asics GT-2090
Dusk Anderson-Science Museum loop with Bosworth. Weather was pretty nice after a hot day. Legs felt great from the time I woke up this morning until right about the science museum on the home stretch, at which point they steadily became more and more ready to stop. After some stretching when I got back they felt fine. Was starting to feel the need for water by the time I got back. You who read my log - about how long will you run for before you decide to take water with you? Took another 1:10000 Hogencamp map with a different course on it that I finished after ~40 minutes. Was a little more focused this time than last, but my mind drifts from time to time. Bosworth mentioned that I slow down a bit every time I look down at the map. I guess that's not such a bad thing.

Saturday Jun 25

running (road) 34:41 [2]6.5 km (5:20 / km)
slept:8.5 shoes: asics GT-2090
Mass Ave. - River St. loop with Bosworth. 82F when we got back at 9:45. Legs felt sluggish after the day off, and I kept having to suck in a lot of air to fill my lungs, but that was just the weather. Forgot to bring a map with me.
