Event: US Middle Distance and Relay Champs

Orienteering race 43:07 [4]*** 5.33 km (8:05 / km) +260m 6:30 / km
spiked:16/17c shoes: Adidas Novas
Felt incredibly tired from the get-go. Had a stomach cramp by the time I got to the flat part, so even that was slow. I guess I should start running earlier in the day or something. On the up side, it was clean. Not sure how I added 75m of climb to the optimal route.
C • Those numbers looked a litt... 1
Orienteering race (sprint) 15:40 [4]*** 2.6 km (6:02 / km) +75m 5:16 / km
spiked:13/14c shoes: Adidas Novas
Once again, clean and slow. Made a mistake on the spectator control, getting too far right. Probably 30sec.

Tuesday Apr 15

cycling warm up/down 1:00:00
Biking up to the Sheepfold. My watch died, so I'm not actually sure of the time. Haven't biked in a while, so the hills were a bit of a workout.
Orienteering race (sprint) 25:56 [5]*** 3.2 km (8:06 / km) +65m 7:21 / km
spiked:7/11c shoes: Adidas Novas
First event of the 2008 Boston Park Series, at Pine Hill North, set by Alexei. Was able to push pretty hard. Made a few mistakes, probably 2 minutes or so.

Katia and Giovanni's last event in the states before they move to the Netherlands. Will definitely miss having them around.

Monday Apr 14

Note
(rest day)
Feelin' some serious pain today. Damage from the fall not as bad as I had feared, probably will be back to normal in time for the relays.

Sunday Apr 13

Event: 30th Annual Billygoat Run

Orienteering long 2:08:16 [4]*** 13.5 km (9:30 / km) +690m 7:34 / km
22c shoes: Nike Terra Ridge 07
Billygoat at Clear Lake. Tripped and fell into a bed of rocks on the first control, which has left me with some nasty bruises on my right thigh and knee, plus some scrapes. Didn't seem so bad at first, but was really feeling it by the downhill from 18-19.

Started out with no energy. Maybe running 7 miles yesterday was a mistake. Pretty straightforward to 1&2, then took the left option around the left of the marsh to #3, moving pretty slow and too hesitant. Took my first gu at #3 and felt better after that. Slow through the rhododendron, came to #4 at the same time as Balter, then skipped #5, which allowed me to catch up with Ross and Kenny, who I was with through #7 and halfway to #8, before I took a retarded route choice up the crazy steep slope. By this point was quite tired, which probably affected my reasoning. Anyways, by #10 a pack had caught me, though I stayed ahead of them through #13. On 14 I had a huge (probably 3-4 minute) error, running right by the control and correcting in a miserably poor manner, so by this time that crowd I had left at #12 had caught back up to me. The rest was slow and not so clean. Lost some time on #16, then just slow. Made probably 8 minutes of mistakes, and another 5 minutes of giving in to being tired. Nice course, though.
