| ACT long distance champs. at 'Boboyan Divide'. What a difference a day makes. Some time lost in the circle at times, but I had great map contact on most legs, and used the contours very well to-day. Of course, good map contact usually implies some defensive route choices again, and that was the case compared to others, but a very enjoyable day on a great area - the sort of effort that keeps bringing me back to this great sport. |

| ACT Middle distance champs. on 'Honeysuckle Creek'. My greatest fear realised. Logging a humiliating performance such as this on AP. My inadequacies as an Orienteer were laid bare to-day. I simply could not deal with the complex technical challenge of to-day's course. Hard to believe I actually went quite well on this map at the Oceania event here last year, and was looking forward to the challenge to-day. I like to take a positive from every course - for the second time in my last 3 events I am forced to say that at least I kept working as hard as I could to the (very) bitter end. |

| ACT Sprint Champs. on 'Murryong Ridge'. Costly errors 7,9 and 12 - can't get away with that at my ability level if I want to be competitive in a sprint. Really enjoyed the course and the area. Some defensive route choices compared to Joshwa - I am running further than I need to, but given my limitations, the trade off is I kept map contact most of the time. |

| Same run as Tuesday. Went out during a break in the weather, but came back soaked. Felt good, ran well up the hills. Gee it's been wet in the Hunter Valley. The rain that drenched the club event last Sunday just hasn't let up. Haven't seen sunlight since last Saturday afternoon. I just don't enjoy that feeling. |

 | Running 50:09 [3] | |

| Regular mid-length run from home around Ashtonfield's streets, paths, nature strips - and a little section of bush. Felt good following the drenching on Sunday! |
 | Warm Up/Warm Down warm up/down (warm down) 1:00:00 [1] | |
| |
| Slower jogging, a bit of resistance work, stretching and then some gardening. Yes, gardening, to be defined as "potentially beneficial incidental physical activity, but only if your efforts are noticed by your partner, in which case the likelihood of a 'thumbs up' to your next request for a game of golf is significantly increased". Needless to say, I went to great lengths to ensure my efforts could not be missed!! |

 | Golf 1:15:00 [1] | |
| |
| Golf - couldn't feel comfortable with my AP log if I wasn't making reference to my other great sporting passion. Besides - can't wait to see the graph colour. 80 wedges at Maitland Common. Ball swings, ground swings, full swings. Finally got some direction control, but distance control!!! - just like my Orienteering, there is plenty of work to do. Haven't done this for at least 8 weeks I reckon - loved it! |

| Club minor event. Continued my poor record at club level events, and not such good timing as it absolutely bucketed down during my lengthy stay out in the bush. I guess my perseverence was a plus to-day. Thanks to Dennis and Joy for their effort with setting and organisation. |

| |
| It is 23/4, and I am ammending a training log entry following a 'sledge' from Joshwa, obviously concerned that his title of best trainer in the house is now under serious threat. At least I have the pleasure of knowing I figured out what to do to make a change to my log without his help!
Junior training camp finished to-day. Supervised kids during 'beep test', ladder drills and resistance work with light hand weights. Has been a great week I think. Couldn't hand pick a better group of young people to spend the first week of your holidays with. Hope to have a report on the OANSW website real soon. |

 | Orienteering 40:00 [2] ** 2.5 km (16:00 / km) | |
| |
| Day 4 of the training camp. Relay sprint interval in the morning at 'Maitland Park' - all i had to do was drive the bus, time and lead a warm down. Kids were super keen, and responded well to this activity. Out to 'Walka Water Works' in the arvo for middle distance courses. Started and timed again, but at least got some control collection in at the end of the session. |
 | Running 25:00 [2] * 4 km (6:15 / km) | |

| Jogged around Tocal College before tea, using the basic map they give to visitors. Newcastle Club is thinking of approaching the College to make a sprint map, and I just felt inclined to have a look around. Reckon the area has great potential, particularly if a paddock to the south can be mapped as well - a little bit of bush thrown in, just like Radford College in the ACT, though the buildings would not be quite so intense to navigate in and around at speed. |
Wednesday Apr 16 |
 | Orienteering 20:00 [0] 0.3 km (1:06:40 / km) | |

| Day 3 of the training camp. 'Camp Champs' on 'Shotgun Avenue'. Thanks to Geoff T and Rob P senior putting out controls, and the squad, Karen and Darvo bringing them in, all I had to do was start and time. Very positive day once again, but if things remain this 'low key' for me I'll have to be careful what I eat for tea out at Tocal. The evening meals have been sensational, but I'm not exactly 'burning it off'. |
Tuesday Apr 15 |
 | Orienteering 45:00 [3] *** 3 km (15:00 / km) | |
| |
| Day 2 of the Training Camp. Spent most of my time with the seniors, timing a round robin of 5 sprint intervals between 1.0km to 1.5km in length. A short jog in to the training area, and some control collection. Very easy day for me, but the squad worked really hard - very pleasing to see. 'Rural Acres' and 'Wattle Ponds Road' out at Singleton were great areas for to-days activities, particularly with the tracks taken off the map. Juniors responded well to a day of training using mainly the contours. |

| Day 1 of the Junior Training Camp on 'Poppethead Decapitated'. Shadowing Glen and Alexander. A few problems, but the boys did some good things to. Plenty of productive pre and post leg discussion. |

| SL4 on 'Brokenback Slopes' - new map from Dennis, and another great job. Enjoyed Russell Rigby's course. Plenty to be pleased with once again, but the hills brought me to my knees on a couple of occasions. Throw in some poor route choices, and I did make things harder than they needed to be. But I guess I worked within my limitations. |
 | Orienteering warm up/down (Resistance training) 20:00 [2] | |

| Packing the bus for the training camp. Had no idea 17 juniors could have so much stuff with them. Bloody hard work, so I'm claiming the effort as training!! |

| SL3 at the 'Chimney'. Plenty to be happy about given my limitations as an Orienteer. Joshwa started 8 mins. behind me, and very surprised I didn't see him until 11-12. Can't believe he put another 6 minutes on me from 12 to finish. I was actually trying to work hard, but he made me feel like I was standing still. Great course from Nick Dent (CCO). |

| Checked a few control sites on 'Shotgun Avenue' in preparation for the junior squad camp next week. Another great Newcastle area, and great to find that spider web numbers are down. Sure to please many of the juniors. |
