Running race 17:30 [5] 5.0 km (3:30 / km)
shoes: Nike Flyknit One+

newy parkrun. Time was a bit quicker than i thought it would be. came 2nd. felt reasonable running but was certainly missing that extra little bit to chase down the leader who was constantly only around 6-7 secs in front

Orienteering race 2:26:30 [4] 17.0 km (8:37 / km)
shoes: Inov8 x talon 212 #2

Pretty terrible today, couldn't orienteer to save my life. started second last with kas just behind, but never saw him come past and ran the whole race alone. decided to run at a easy pace to try and conserve energy, haven't done anything long for ages. drifted wide to #1 then messed up #2 even with a solid attackpoint. not enjoying the terrain much and then lost more time on #5, by just being 1 contour too low. my head hadn't been agreeing with my compass and after a pretty shocking first 5 controls my motivation was pretty much gone. picked up a bit on the nice running to 6 and across to 8 to some extent but my confidence was shot and was pulling up short and hesitating, costing me time. missed #9 even though i walked up the hill. beginning to get annoyed now and didn't enjoy the leg across to #10 at all, nor the fact that about 5m away from the control i decided i'd gone too far and went back the way i came, eventually relocated and got it the second time, but not without a massive time loss. didn't even bother trying to run for the next few because there was so much fallen timber, but somehow even walking I nearly missed #11 and completely missed #12 to the point where i was amazed that i couldn't make things match up on the map. this was the lowest point on the course here where i'd had enough and seriously considered quitting. got #12 eventually and couldn't believe how close i must have come without seeing it. #13 had some hesitation in the circle and #14 i'd drifted too far right. finally happy to get out into the open to the pivot, where i had a sit and a gel and an assessment of the next 2 loops. these went ok i guess but still wasn't hitting anything cleanly. well over the 2 hour mark by now as completed the pivots then jogged down to the final couple controls to finally finish. the results board was taken down by then so i kept my sticker as a reminder of this run, what went wrong and why. legs very sore now
