Orienteering race 50:47 [5] 10.0 km (5:05 / km)
shoes: Inov8 x talon 212 #3

NOY 6 at Belford. Started well and only trouble early on was hitting #4 too high. the rest was pretty good and was moving fast. bit zig zaggy on the long leg to #11. Began to tire a bit through #12 and #13. And then i blew it. Drifted too far to the right for #14, but the vegetation at the creek looked exactly what i'd visualised in my head. went in looking for the termite mound but no luck. persevered for a little while then relocated back to where i hit the creek, looked downstream and sure enough there was the clump of vegetation i was originally aiming to hit, and my control. ran off hard to #15, seemed further than it should have but i'd found the creek and could see a control ahead, sprinted to it to make up time, turns out it was number #16 and i'd gone up the wrong gully! biggest rookie mistake and had to run all the way to #15 and back. was pretty furious with myself after that. turns out #14 was in the wrong spot which is why it was so easy to get suckered into the left gully, but still should have been better with my compass. lost 5-6mins all up in the end, was right on track to run 45mins
distance a guess, my gps didn't locate til a fair way in

Edit: yep, splits tell the story. 5:40 lost in the 2 controls. another chance to wrap up the NOY goes begging

Running race 18:02 [5] 5.0 km (3:36 / km)

newy parkrun. decided to start a row or 2 back today to try and stop me from sprinting off at the start like i tend to do. however got stuck behind a large group going at a very casual pace for the first 400m and ended up pushing hard to catch up to the front guys anyway. then because of the path construction around the top end we had to deviate a bit, but the turnaround wasn't any shorter. would have cost 10 secs all up. so time a bit down even though i ran much better than last week
