Running hills 20:00 [5]

Three times up and down Fergus Drive and Oban Drive alternating (ie. 6 hills altogether). A real struggle. At the moment I seem to be strong enough on the flat but go into oxygen debt really fast when running uphill. Need to work on this a lot.

Note
(rest day)

Borderline decision as to whether training was a good idea as I was feeling fairly fresh after the weerkend. However, I'm supposed to be building things up gradually, so stayed in the warm.

Orienteering 1:00:07 [5]

Bloody hell, that was cold!!! 60 min score at Drumpellier in wet snowfall, with parts of the area calf deep in water/mud. Very glad I decided to keep the cagoule on after my "warm up" jog. Ran OK aside from getting stuck in an overgrown bog near the W edge of the map, as well as the usual challenges finding mini-markers on some bingo-ish features. Chose the strategy I should have used last week, but was over-optimistic about the remaining time after collecting them all, having to cut short my bonus loop and sprint for home (7 secs late). Well beaten by Andy L, but won the Clyde battle ahead of Arnis and Simon.

Very grateful for having a warm place to download and change, and even more so for the soup and cakes in the cafe!

Running warm up/down 10:00 [1]

Jog before running. Too cold after to contemplate staying outside.

Running 45:00 [2]

Sighthill and Cowlairs run. Legs not feeling very dynamic - not sure if this was due to a tough evening on Thursday or the rest day on Friday.

Note
(rest day)

Belated NY resolution to start updating AP regularly after being too busy and stressed to bother for much of last semester. I was still training reasonably, though not to the level I wanted, apart from a couple of weeks in December when I rested up to get rid of a calf niggle (actually I'm quite proud of that!).

Seeing other people set targets for the year has been interesting. I'm not sure I have any apart from enjoying myself and staying injury-free (the two are linked). The JK and British don't appeal at all, so the Scottish will probably be the big race to aim for, along with Jukola (with the Clyde team!) and hopefully a multi-day. Who knows, I may even do a few urban races. I'm also keen to do my first running races for several years and get out on the hills as much as I can.

Running 25:00 [2]

From Ibrox underground to Nether Pollok, plus a bit of jogging around in VJs.

Orienteering 24:19 [5]

Back at Pollok for the night score held over from December. No bonus control shenanigans this time as there was zero chance of getting all the controls in 25 mins. I managed a sensible route this time, and by pushing hard over the last few I came in comfortably on time. Others were less lucky!

Running 35:00 [3]

Home from Nether Pollok via the SECC. Pleased I managed this - it was tough once north of the river.

Running 40:00 [2]

Sighthill run with an extra loop along the canal. Very soggy underfoot, but feeling not too bad, especially once the breeze was at my back.
