Orienteering 21:05 [5]

Sprint-esque course from an old Mosshead urban event I missed, using a Routegadget printout. Discovered rather late that I'd printed an A3 map onto an A4 sheet. This, along with Routegadget's automatic number placement and lack of circle cutting, meant I missed a couple of cut-through routes, which is my excuse for being 20 sec longer than Dave managed in the race. Felt good while running, but legs were in bits afterwards.

Running 45:00 [2]

Prolonged warm up and down from Westerton station to the course start/finish. Would have preferred to go to Bearsden, but reckoned without the current north Glasgow rail faffage.

Running 50:00 [3]

Up to Dawsholm and back along the river. Steady start following a bad night's sleep, but going fairly fast by the last 10 minutes.

Running 45:00 [3]

Figure-of-eight loop of Cowlairs and a loop of Hamiltonhill from home. The grass has grown up hugely in the last month, which is nice for resistance training but means that grass seed does seem to get everywhere!

Running 10:00 [4]

Short but hard fartlek along the canal, using the watch to generate random length efforts (up to a minute) with 10 sec recoveries. I reckon this makes for good sprint training given the amount of accelerating and decelerating involved. It's also quite fun, if tiring.

Running 40:00 [3]

Out across the canal and over Ruchill Park. Had intended to run round the golf course, but discovered that someone has stuck padlocks on the gates at the clubhouse end, while simultaneously putting up posters advertising 'free fun activities' at the course. Presumably running around one of the more interesting hilly green spaces in the city doesn't count as a free fun activity! Luckily they don't yet seem to have blocked the entrance at the west end of the course, but I suspect it's a matter of time. Another nice off-road route lost - what with Sighthill becoming a building site I'm beginning to run a bit short of them.
